Mr. Albert G. Coney

Mr. Albert G. Coney entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 18, 2022 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper Hospital with his family by his side at the age of 79 years. Albert was born July 25, 1942 in St. Petersburg, Florida the son of Glover and Marquerette (Allen) Coney. Mr. Coney was a devoted Christian attending First Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Ronald Turner. Albert was a member in the Men’s Choir and was a Trustee until his health started to decline. Albert joined the United States Army in 1959 coming to Saginaw, Michigan in 1971 as a recruiter. He devoted 20 years of military service. He was a Drill Sergeant, and also participated on the Army’s Boxing Team. He was a Vietnam Veteran and later became a Special Service Recruiter serving in the Saginaw County area, Flint and Bay City during his last eight years in the military before retiring in 1979. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he then worked for the Saginaw Board of Education and retired in 1999. Albert enjoyed playing with his grandkids, making people laugh, watching and playing basketball. His hobbies included playing basketball, bowling and boxing. He will be remembered as being the boxing coach/trainer at the First Ward Community Center instilling pride in, and preparing young men for The Golden Gloves Competition . Mr. Albert Coney leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Jean (Dunham) Coney; son, Norris Coney; daughter, Royce (Vincent) Turner; five grandchildren, Taniesha (Joe) Bowen, Tanielle (Keith) Cunningham, Taney, Imani, Dajia, Makala, Jayden and Jamareon; great-grandchildren, Aniya, Kyleigh, Messhia, Kimora, Jameer, Mackenzie, Rakim, Jr. and Tyron; sister, Aretha Humphries; brother, Nathaniel (Grace) Coney four god children, Brenda, Cindy, Glen and Sharise; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins other family members and friends who all loved him dearly. Mr. Coney was preceded in death by a son, Marcus C. Coney; grandson, Tyrone; parents, Glover and Marquerette Coney; brothers, Charles, Lonnie, Eugene and Ulyssee; sisters, Catherine, Marjorie and Odyssa; his mother-in-law, Bettie Montgomery. The family would like to thank the staff of Covenant Medical Center Cooper 3rd floor CVICU. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Johnnie Jackson will officiate. Interment will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
