Ms. Bertha Mae Wright

Our beloved Bertha Mae Wright was graciously captured by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the age of 83 years. Aunt Bertie as she was affectionately known as has been released into the heaven to officially become the Angel she truly was on earth. She was born on October 26, 1932 in Anderson County, North Carolina the daughter of William and Mable Eva (Love) Wright. Before eventually relocating to Saginaw, Michigan she spent time in New York City, New York auditioning for Broadway to pursue her aspirations as a ballet dancer. Aunt Bertie was a strong woman of distinction and one of the most giving, selfless individuals you could ever encounter. She loved to take care of people and her laughter was contagious. Aunt Bertie had a sparkling sense of humor that was both witty and sharp. Although she had no children of her own she mothered many people. Aunt Bertie loved and cared for children whether they were family or not. Later in life she attended Ruben Daniel Life Long Learning Center and received a one year completion certification. She worked as a Sales Clerk at Heavenrich Clothing Store and also held jobs as an Elevator Operator and Caregiver. Auntie Bertie was a true homemaker who loved a clean house, planting flowers, cooking, ironing clothes, garden work and making sure her loved ones who passed on had flowers at their grave every Memorial Day. She was the heart of her family giving her time and affection freely to those she loved. Aunt Bertie was a fashionista who loved shopping, wearing her pretty clothes and looking her best. She was a member of many churches throughout her life. Ms. Bertha Mae Wright leaves to cherish her memory, sister, Ellen L. Williams whom she referred to as her “baby sister”; five nieces whom she referred to as her “girls”, Teresa (Theotis) Wilcoxon, Lori Wright, Carmela and Sandra Williams and Denise Miller; three nephews, Michael, Paul and Floyd (Beverly) Buchanan; great-nieces, Tanisha Wilcoxon, Natasha and Alicia Williams, and Lakenya Williams; great-nephews whom she referred to as her “boys”, Terrence (Latoya) Williams, Rodney Williams, Dejuan Williams, Noah Williams, Cory Wright, Derrick Williams, Tavaris Wilcoxon, Stevie Miller and Dontae Harrison, Jr.; god-sons, Stanley, Jr. and Dion Brazil; special great-great-nieces and nephews, Kelviohn and Ziontay Johnson, Tavarionna Wilcoxon and Zaya Wright; a host of great-great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Ms. Wright was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mable Eva (Love) Wright, two brothers, Joe and Jerry Wright; nephew, Darryl Williams; companion, Mr. Beverly J. Thomas; two adopted daughters, Sherry and Paula Williams; and brother-in-law, Charles P. Williams. The family wishes to express special thank you to all of Covenant Healthcare staffs, Dr. Ononuju and Dr. Altamash Amin. Funeral service will take place 12Noon Friday, July 15, 2016 2016 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue. Pastor Robert Davis, Jr. will officiate. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
