Mr. Clark Singleton

“To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1 On the wings of an Angel at 4:59 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 the Lord saw fit to come into the garden of life and take home with him a soldier who had fought a good fight and kept the faith in the giant of a man, Brother Clark Singleton. A Time To Be Born: On October 5, 1938 God wrapped a treasure in human flesh and entrusted him to the care of godly parents Cleveland and Carrie (Mason) Singleton. He was born in LaMarque, LA and was the eight of eight siblings. He lived in LaMarque until he was four years old. His parents then moved to Rosey Quitta, LA it was here that they raised him. He was a gift to life that set out on a journey like none other. He (Bro. Singleton) lived in Rosey Quitta until 1960 and then he moved to Clayton, LA and resided there until 1963. A Time To Love: Love was in the air. The time was right and the lady was precious in his sight. He recognized the need for holy matrimony and he sought out none other than Elizabeth Murray to become his bride. They became united in Holy Matrimony in 1962. Their marriage was one that was loving, caring and sharing, but most of all it was two young people who set out on a journey in life that made them one, just as the bible had taught them. As the two became one their union was blessed with two loving children, Edwin Singleton and Diana V. Singleton-Johnson. After the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Murray-Singleton, Bro. Singleton met and married Vivian Betty Little in 1978. This union joined together with her two children and he reared Kwami Franklin and Siovahan Stanton. Bro. Singleton devoted his life to making his home a place of respect, a great love for the Lord and a great nurturing center for the Lord and for all those who passed through his doors. He is found during this tedious time and unwavering days being cared for by his special fiancé Elizabeth Hudspeth, devoted companion for many years along with her children, Ann and Amy and a host of grandchildren. A Time To Work, Hobbies, Enjoyment Of Life; He graduated in 1958 from Sevier High School where he was a dynamic basketball player. Bro. Singleton began a life of work on the farm in Rosey Quitta and moved forward to work at the Wilson Box Factory until 1962. After setting his feet steep in the glowing automotive world of Michigan, Bro. Singleton landed a job at Grey Iron Metal Casting Plant and worked there continuously for 42 years. He was a member of UAW Local 668. He did his job, enjoyed his work and enjoyed working with his fellow men and women. His work mode promoted his love for cars themselves. Fiddling with cars was the thing he enjoyed to the utmost. He owned such gems in the car world as a 1965 Buick, 1966 convertible Plymouth, 1971 Fury 3, 1985 Cadillac, 2002 PT Cruiser, GMC Truck, and a Jag, but the love of his car world was his white Toyota Tondra. These items were great but his prize possession was his Saturday morning workout of cleaning up his cars and manicuring his lawn to look like pure green carpet. A Time To Be Saved And A Time For Church: A great time of rejoicing~~In 1951 Bro. Clark Singleton made another great stride in life, he was baptized and met Christ under the leadership of Rev. David Lee in Rosey Quitta where he served until he relocated to Saginaw, MI. During this phase of his journey Bro. Singleton was crowned a Deacon at the St. Peter Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor David Lee. When his quest for a religious home was sought out in Saginaw, he joined the TrueVine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.B Corley, Sr. until 1989 upon his death. He remained faithful with his church duties and in 1969 he joined the Truevine Baptist Church Senior Usher Board until this very day. “Once an usher, always an usher.” What a great “door keeper” he was in the house of The Lord. In 1977 he served as a Trustee at the Truevine Baptist Church until 1992. In 1992 he thus began serving under the leadership of the current Pastor, Rev. Paul E Broaddus where he served faithfully until this present moment. He enjoyed nothing more than his serving in the house of the Lord. Because of his faith and belief, he knew it would one day pay off. ”Servant Well Done, you’ve earned your crown of righteousness”. A Time To Be Ill: A time to reflect upon the affliction of not being in the best of health. He looked upon the words of the master when he said to us in the book of James 5:14 “Is anyone among our sick? Let him call for the Elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord”. This is what he did. He called and his pastor came in word, deed and prayer. This is the quiet relationship they had for each other, one with great respect for the love of the Lord and mankind. He was a man who spoke quietly to others but had a great respect for all when he encountered on this great journey in life. He was a very quiet spirit that understood his position in life and how that position was affected by his ability to accept his illness. He accepted it with such grandeur that his doctors showed the utmost respect in treating him. One of his doctors went as far as to say “I will take care of you just as I would my own father”. What a Gentle Man”. He took care to do things the right way, he accepted the results and did all he could to put the things of life in place. This was the success of what a great man can and will do when he has lived life to the fullest. He was a man who accepted his call. The care provided by his children, Diana, Jerome, brother Archie, his family, the great doctors, John Bartnik, Dr. Atri Manohar and all the Seventh Floor Nurses and Staff at covenant along with the 6th floor care takers. They all worked beyond reproach. He was given the best care one could possibly have and God comforted him with the rest. A Time To Die: I have done my best here on these mundane shores of life. I have been true to myself and have tried to teach each of you something as I tarried. “Now I must leave you because a charge to keep I have A God to glorify who gave his son my soul to save and fit for the sky”. On May 20, 2017 Bro. Clark Singleton left these memories of a dying world to enter his Father’s house to live forever more in the joy of the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Diana V. Singleton-Johnson (Clinton), sons, Edwin J. Singleton, Kwami Franklin (Andrea) and daughter, Siovhan Stanton; brother, Archie Singleton, Kansas City, Kansas; fiancé, Elizabeth Hudspeth; grandchildren, Darcell Singleton, Highland, IN, Ja’Nay Johnson, Louisville, KY, Alauna Johnson, Mt. Pleasant, MI, Amaree Clinton Johnson, Trollis, W. Lewis (RoShawnda), Edwin J. Singleton, Jr., Malik Morrison Singleton, Emarion Singleton, Evanna E. Singleton of Saginaw, MI, Travon Stanton, Stone Mountain, GA, Yenta Sanders, Fort worth, TX, Kwani Franklin, Jr., New Orleans, LA, Aaron Crumpley, Tuscaloosa, AL and Keandrae Leatherwood, Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Lailah Roby-Johnson, Saginaw, MI, Jayden Brown, Jasmyn Lewis, Edwin Jerome Singleton III, Amira Singleton and Zion Nina Simone Singleton; sister-in-law, Jackie Singleton, Saginaw, MI and one god-daughter, Tamara Abner of Ypsilant, MI; special nieces, nephews, many cousins too numerous to mention; a truly wonderful church family, the usher board and special cousins, Dennis and Esther Lee, Willie (Walter) Sherman; special friends, Herbert Flournoy, Jimmie Moultrie, Leon and Bertha Payne, James and Joyce Evans, Johnnie and Donnella Brown, Deacon Willie C. Weems and Evangelist Wilma Weems. Bro. Singleton was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Carrie (Mason) Singleton; three brothers, George Mason, Grover (Ann) Singleton, Sam (Virginia); three sisters, Amanda Summers (Luther), Katie Rowan Cook (David) and Lizzie Singleton; sister-in-law, Martha Singleton; nephews, George Mason, Jr. and Earl Singleton. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at TrueVine Missionary Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, MI. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family hour 7:00-8:00 p.m.
