Mrs. Claudette Bray

Claudette McClain-Bray was born on September 19, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan to Mack and Marie (Cook) McClain. She was the second of the five siblings born to this union. Affectionately known as “Honey Bunny”, Claudette attended Potter Elementary, Arthur Eddy Jr. High, and Saginaw High Schools. While growing up, she watched the TV soap opera, General Hospital and admired the character Jessie Brewer inspiring her to become a nurse. After graduating high school, she attended Delta College and became a Registered Nurse. She later continued her studies at Sienna Heights College earning her B.S.N. She was employed by Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital, Saginaw County Child Receiving Home, Saginaw County Public Health Department and Mental Health Agencies. While attending Arthur Eddy, Jr. High, she met Cleophus Bray, Jr. They wed July 26, 1969. This union lasted until they were parted by death, March of 2023. As part of this union they became parents of Shonda, Brentoya and DeBronson. In 1973, Claudette was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses attending the Saginaw Congregation. Claudette’s favorite hobby was shopping. She shopped for herself, her family and anyone else whom she could think of. Jacobson’s was her favorite store. After the closing of the store, the Home Shopping Network became her new found favorite. She was affiliated with the Michigan Black Nurses Association, The Child Abuse and Neglect Council and was a former licensed foster parent. Cherishing her memories are her daughters Shonda Bray and Brentoya (Vincent) Breamsy, son, Cleophus DeBronson Bray; grandchildren Ondreana (Jaylen) Philips, Vincent, Madison and Vintoria Breamsy, Genesis Bray; great-grandsons Santiago, Carter, Serenity, Jayla, Zariah and Malani; siblings Linda McClain Veasley and Gary (Elsa) McClain; nieces and nephews, Byron Holiday, Brandi (Quincy) Hayes, Gary, Mack, April and Nyla McClain, Taylor Garcia and Estrella Carreras; Sherry, Thomas, Roger, Rita, Theotis, Melissa, Constance, Tracy, Wardell, Tylinda Pamela and Kaneisha Lawrence, and in-laws, the Darbys. She also leaves one aunt Minnie (Cleveland) White, special cousins Joann Grant and Gilda (Hilton) Jackson, special lifelong friends who were there until the end Elaine (Houston) Jackson, Juanita (Darryl) Drake, Pat Pleasant, Maurice Green, Silvia McClain; Margaret Blvd. neighbors, the Guerra, Durham, Wicker and Billings families. Claudette was preceded in death by her husband, Cleophus, her parents, Mack and Marie McClain, brothers Ronnie and Duane McClain, a special aunt and uncle, Eddie and Earlie Baker, parents-in-law, Cleophus Bray, Sr., Maybelle (O.B.) Ferdinand, sister-in-law Mattie Lawrence, brothers-in-law Eddie Darby, Al Holiday and Robert Veasley. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m.on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 1203 N. Niagara, Saginaw, MI 48601. Bro. Jimmie Burkhead will officiated with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
