Mrs. Elnora Wood

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believe in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die… John 11:25-26 Elnora Johnson Wood, age 83 years of Saginaw, Michigan completed her earthly assignment and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Hoyt Nursing & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. Elnora was born on June 6, 1940 in Cottondale, Alabama the daughter of Amanda and Theodore Johnson Sr. She was born the sixth of seventeen children. She received all of her education in Cottondale and attended Holt High School. Elnora confessed Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at the Benville Baptist Church under the pastoralship of Pastor B.B. Burns. She married William Wood on December 19, 1957 and from this union six children were born; Larry, Diana, Lonnie, Annette, Kevin Sr. and Regina. In September of 1963 they headed north to Saginaw, Michigan to better their family. She became employed at the County Hospital as a Nurse’s Assistant and also as a housekeeper for the Fergusons. Back in Elnora’s earlier years, she loved fishing. She had a gift for cooking especially for her family and friends. One of her specialties was Oxtail Soup (the best you would ever taste). She also liked gaming and taking trips. Elnora leaves to cherish loving memories her four children, Diana Bracey, Lonnie (Alicia) Wood, both of Saginaw, MI, Kevin (Lesley) Wood Sr. of San Antonio, TX and Regina (Melvin) Wood of Saginaw, MI; 18 beautiful grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly; four sisters, Addie P. Peterson, Tuscaloosa, AL, Carolyn Richardson, Moundville, AL, Evangelist Gloria Dean (Bobby) Clark, Sweet Water, AL and Sandra Bishop (Ron) Riley, Cottondale, AL; two brothers, Deacon Johnny Mack Johnson, Cottondale, AL and Rubin Johnson, Bedford Heights, OH; sisters-in-law, Denise and Maggie Johnson; a host of nephews; nieces, cousins other relatives and friends. Mrs. Elnora Wood was preceded in death by her husband, William Wood; son, Larry Wood; daughter, Annette Wood; grandson, Lonnie Wood Jr.; her parents, Theodore Sr. and Amanda Johnson; six brothers, Theodore Jr., Rev. Alonzo, Franklin, Rev. Janice, Houston and Terry; four sisters, Monzelle, Ozzie, Maryann and Helen Cowley; mother-in-law, Mattie Stanley; son-in-law, Willie R. Bracey Jr.; brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Richardson and Werdna Peterson; sisters-in-law, Yvonne and Ruth Johnson; dear friends, Juanita Smith and Olevia Houston. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home,441 N. Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Theodore Watson will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. .
