Essie M. Curry

Essie Mae Curry was born July 6, 1912 to the late John and Mary Ford in Webb, Alabama. Essie made her transition from Earth to Glory on October 4, 2014 at the tender age of 102, after a lengthy illness surrounded by family. She married Perry T. Curry on April 4, 1936. They were married for 49 years until he preceded her in death. After leading Perry to Christ, Essie and Perry worked tirelessly to lead the lost to Christ. She was a faithful member of the South 17th Street Church of Christ where she remained steadfast until her health prevented her from doing so. In illness, she never stopped serving the Lord and remained a hard-fighting soldier on the battlefield for the Lord. Essie completed the eighth grade and managed to teach of Jesus as a scholar. She was an advocate for education and pushed her children to complete high school and college if possible. She was a resident of Carrollton Township in Saginaw, MI. Essie loved cooking, baking, quilting, fishing, gardening, playing and watching baseball, spending time with family, and most of all, she loved the Lord. Essie leaves to cherish her memory three sons and two daughters: Teal E. (Sadie) Curry of Saginaw, MI, Jake A. Curry of Auburndale, FL, Hazel L. Dawkins of Saginaw, MI, Percy T. (Priscilla) Curry of Saginaw, MI, and Beverly L. Curry of Saginaw, MI; a sister, Rena Robinson of Dothan, AL; and a special nephew, Willie Robinson of Dothan, AL. She will be missed and cherished by her fourteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a beloved family friend, Leonard Batts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry T. Curry; two sons, Arthur J. and Jerome Curry; her parents, John and Mary Ford; ten sisters, one brother, a granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014 at South 17th Church of Christ, 516 South 17th Street, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Minister Cedric Townsel will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
