Ms. Evelyn Louise Murphy

Evelyn Louise Murphy was born September 18, 1927 in Ellison, Arkansas to Girtha (Reynolds) Green and Fred Murphy. She passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the age of 95 years. She became a resident of Saginaw, Michigan after leaving Kansas City, Kansas in 1944 with her son and daughter to make a better life for them. After working as a maid for a few prominent families of Saginaw, Evelyn was gainfully employed with Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital where she retired from after 33 years. Evelyn has been a faithful member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church since the 1960’s. She was the Mother and eldest of the church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Besides her church duties, she enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching and caring for her family. Keeping the family unit together was always important to her. She was the Matriarch of the family and the glue that kept them all together. She raised her two children as well as her grandchildren and some great-grandchildren. She was what you called home, because home is where the heart is. Evelyn leaves behind to cherish many memories, one son, Ronald Williams Sr., Saginaw, MI; nine grandchildren, Rebecca McAdory, Largo, FL, Livinia Collins, New Port Richey, FL, Rosanna (Lawrence) Knowles, Brandon, FL, Ronald Williams, Jr., Valerie Williams, Lavelle Maxey, Revon Williams, Marquest Henderson, Maurice Mushatt and Mary Collins, all of Saginaw, MI; (a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren) and special friend, Myrtle Collier. Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother Girtha Green, father, Fred Murphy, daughter, Verna Ellis, son-in-law John Ellis Jr., two grandsons, Marshall Morris and Ronald Stapleton, and granddaughter, Tina (Collins) Smith. The family extends a special thanks to her granddaughter, Mary Collins, two great-granddaughters, C’erra Jackson and Aaliyah Layton and the A&D Home Care, Shelly Rezmer, RN, Shalena Layton, Neosha Layton and Megan Trice, Safe Hands, Warm Hearts and Hospice staff for being attentive and very instrumental in assisting with Ms. Murphy’s care. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor John L. Williams, Sr. will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum, 5950 Gratiot Rd., Saginaw, MI 48638.
