Mr. Herbert Gibson

Mr. Herbert Gibson was born on October 15, 1929 in Lexington, Mississippi to Joe and Mary (Logan) Gibson. He was the fourth of fifteen children born to this union. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where the whole family attended. Herbert departed this life on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Herbert attended Jackson Grove Elementary School in Lexington, Mississippi. He left his formal education at an early age to work in the fields and hunt to help feed the family. Hunting later became one of his hobbies and his passion. He later moved to Memphis, Tennessee to live with family and find better employment. On January 2, 1951 Herbert joined the United States Military where he served as a Private First Classman in the Army. Mr. Gibson received an Honorable Discharge releasing him from active duty on December 17, 1952. In 1953, Herbert relocated to Saginaw, Michigan still in search of a better life. He began working at General Motors Grey Iron Plant and was a member of the UAW Local 668. He returned to Lexington to marry the love of his life. Herbert and Ada Frances Hoover were married on December 28, 1953 and spent 65 years together in Saginaw. From this union five children were born, Herbert Jr., Scott, Patricia, Dennis and Nanette. In order to provide for his family, many times he worked six to seven days a week, 12 and 16 hour days, for over 30 years. He truly enjoyed carrying out all of the construction, repairs and maintenance of their properties. Through his commitment, he was able to bless the children with the finances needed for their college education. Mr. Gibson leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, one son, Herbert, Jr. (Lenora) Gibson; two daughters, Patricia (Melvin) Washington and Nanette (Clifford) Davis; grandchildren, Kellee Davis, Herbert Gibson III, Keiandria (Jermaine) Dickerson, Dr. Jesse (Dr. Matifadza) Davis, Clifford Davis II, Brittany Washington, Angela Davis, Brandon Washington, Blake Washington, Sharmese Gibson, Kearria Jones and Joetta Reed; great-grandchildren, Shy’Rell, Josiah, Amari, Journey, Zion and Azuri Gibson, Aneni and Naniso Davis; two brothers, Joe, Jr. (Mary) Gibson and Albert James Johnson; three sisters, Mae Betty Harris, Elmira Gibson and Earsean Ware; sister-in-law, Kathleen Jones along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mr. Herbert Gibson was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Frances Gibson; his parents, Joe and Mary Gibson; sons, Scott and Dennis Gibson; brothers, Leslie, Sr. Wash and L.C. Sr., Gibson; sisters, Albert Jones, Inez Jefferson, Annie Louis Jefferson, Annie Lee Johnson, Lessie Dell Hill and a set of twins that passed shortly after birth; Willie Hoover (Dooley), Henry Hoover (Bud), Ernestine Gibson (Baby Sister), Otha Hoover (Son), Odean Johnson, Alfreda Daniels, Clifton Jones (Gray), Erisene Hoover (Tut), Fannie B. Hoover, Lucy Virginia Hoover (LV), and other family and friends. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, May 20, 2023, from the Chapel of Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Leroy Gibson will officiate with interment Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation 9:00 AM until the time of service.
