Mr. Herman "Bobby" Mayes

Mr. Herman “Bobby” Mayes was born in Florence, MS and while he was a young boy his family relocated to Greenwood, MS where he was a longtime resident. He was born to Eddie and Lula Mae (White) Mayes on September 7, 1955. He passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the age of 63 years. Herman decided to move to Saginaw, MI from Greenwood where he had a slew of family and friends to be with his kids and grandkids. He had strong work ethics believing, “A man gotta work and take care of home.” For many years he worked as a forklift driver for Staple Cotton Inc. He also worked for and retired from the City of Greenwood Sanitation Department and the County Department of Sanitation. He enjoyed playing spades, going to the Casino (boat), playing scratch off tickets, fishing, hunting rabbits and oh, don’t forget his tobacco products. His greatest joy in life were his kids and definitely his grandkids. He married his former wife Bernice Jones in 1975 and to this union four children were born. Mr. Mayes leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, and two sons, Lillian Jones, Aaron Mayes, Denise Mayes and Eddie (Candy) Mayes. He would say, “I never thought I would have grands, now I have 12 Knots!”; CleAnna, Heather, RayOna and Kevon Jones, Isaac Laster (Mayes), Jeanae Boynes (Mayes), Marviana, Arionna, MarTavia, Eddie Mayes, Jr., D’Eddie Mayes and Cerenity Jackson; sisters, Margaret Vann, Belleville, IL, and Rose Addison, Greenwood, MS; brothers, Earl (Nancy) Mayes, St. Louis, MO, Willie James (Shirlene) Mayes, Greenwood, MS and Tommy Mayes, Cordova, TN; 10 nephews; 10 nieces, many other relatives and friends including his Patpa’s from Greenwood, Casino (boat) and special friends, Bernice Mayes Bell, Royal Pollard, Boone, MaShea Hill, Leah Brewer, Tiffany Burton and Jessie Donald, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Mayes, Lula Mayes; brothers, John Robert and Amos Mayes. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Dr. Willie F. Casey will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until of service.
