Ms. Johnnie "Scootie" Mae Wooten

Johnnie Mae "Scootie" Wooten was born September 15, 1949 to Queenie and Buddy Wooten in Bishopville, South Carolina. She went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2018 at the age of 69 years after a lengthy illness. Scootie was employed by St. Mary’s Hospital for four years, and later she was employed by Saginaw Steering Gear Div. of General Motors Corp. from where she retired after 27 years of service. Scootie loved going the extra mile to help people (helping everybody). “I don’t know anyone she didn’t help.” She loved to cook, cooking her soul food, her famous dressing and sweet potato pies, never missing a holiday. Everybody loved her cooking. The people at the homeless shelter always looked forward to eating her delicious sweet potato pies. She enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, playing the lottery and talking mess, but most of all, she loved taking care of her family, mother and all. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Tavar and Tara Wooten; son-in-law, Larry Allen; children, Tia and T-Shon Wooten and Shamell Jackson all of Saginaw, MI; seven brothers, Lucius (Sharon) Floyd, Ray (Ethel) Wells, Jerry (Gayle) Wells, Musa (Zakiyyah) Muhammed, Lennel (Joyce) Brown and Patrick Parker; four sisters, Diane Parker, Yolanda (J.D.) Bethea, Gail (Willie) Parker-Taylor and Gwendolyn Perry; grandchildren, Dionque Jackson, Deon, L.C., DeVontae, De’Stinee Haynes and Reginald Bean; five great-grandchildren; a special niece, Candy; special nephew/son, Walter “Pookie” (Dorothy) Harris; special cousin, Kay Wooten; other relatives and friends; many special friends including Carolyn Bell, Early Rose Woods, Diane Morrison and her Card Party Players. Ms. Wooten was preceded in death by her parents, Queenie and Buddy Wooten (Mary L. Parker); four brothers, James and J.B. Floyd, Eddie and James Scarborough; five sisters, Lillie Mae Harris, Mary-Sue Floyd, Mae-Ella Steward, Sylvia Parker and Madeline Norwood; a special niece, Betty Ann Riley. The family would like to extend thanks to Covenant HealthCare and Dr. Richardson. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Road, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family hour will be from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
