Lillie Flournoy-Watson

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Truevine Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 p.m. Heaven opened its gate to a beautiful rose and loving angel. Mrs. Lillie C (Flournoy) Watson was born December 8, 1922 in Jackson, Tennessee to the late Robenia and Elmer Triggs, Sr. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother departed this life Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Convenant Medical Center-Cooper at the age 89 years. She completed her education at Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee. Soon afterward she met and married Oliver Joshua Flournoy who preceded her in death, to this union nine children were born. "Lillie C" confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Home Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Timothy Grimes. It was here at Home Baptist where she got her start as the pianist for the church choirs, an interest that she undertook for most of her adult life. On November 22, 1964, she married Mr. J. D. Watson in which they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage until his death in 2008. Lillie was a very caring, friendly, and compassionate woman who would go without so others could enjoy. She was a friendly and likeable person and this demeanor was noticed by everyone who met her. Lillie and J.D. moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1974 and joined Truevine Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.B. Corley, Sr.. They both served faithfully and were members of the Senior Choir until their health failed. She loved people and her flowers, but loved her family unconditionally. She leaves to cherish so many wonderful memories, five children, Rev. Lawrence Lanier of Jackson, TN, Major (Anna) Flournoy, Gloria (Preston) Mason, J. Herbert Flournoy, and Athen (Margery) Flournoy, all of Saginaw, MI; 14 grandchildren, including Barbara Flournoy-Heard, whom she raised; 22 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Juanita and Mary Triggs, both of Chicago, IL, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Kevin. She was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers and two sisters; two daughters, Peggy Flournoy-Cooper and Rosette Flournoy-Larry; and two sons, Wayne Joshua and Joe Westley Flournoy.
