Mrs. Mary Beatrice Johnson

Our beloved Mother, grandmother (nanny), great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mary Beatrice Johnson was born July 10, 1929 in Monroe, Louisiana to George and Mildred Zimmerman Moore. She went to her eternal home on Wednesday June 21, 2023, at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA, age 93. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.” Psalms 23 Mary confessed her life to Christ at an early age at Union Baptist Church, Bosco, LA. She continued her Christian journey at Besthesda Baptist Church, Saginaw, MI, where she was a dedicated member of the Sr. Usher Board and served on several auxiliaries for many years; Christian Love Fellowship Church, Ypsilanti, MI, and Hope United Methodist Church, Southfield, MI. She graduated from Richwood High School, Monroe, LA, then attended Grambling State University, Grambling, LA. She retired from General Motors, Saginaw, MI, upon 20 years of service. Mary enjoyed cooking especially baking and crocheting. She loved flowers. She found pleasure in walking through botanical gardens and greenhouses. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music and biblical conversations. She was a great story teller that took pride in reflecting on and sharing her family lineage. However, her greatest love of all was pouring the Word of God, her knowledge and wisdom into her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her beautiful laughter, loving spirit and steadfast faith in the Lord. She was blessed with five loving children to cherish her memory. Lawrence Johnson, Jr., Kempner, TX, Perry (Rene) Johnson, Sr., Shreveport, LA, Deborah (Alvin) Wood, Novi, MI, Jennifer Johnson, Yorktown, VA, and Mildred (Andre) Price, Farragut, TN; five beautiful grandchildren she adored, Perry Johnson, Jr & Brandon Johnson, Shreveport LA, Alana Smith, Knoxville, TN, Giovanni Price, Raleigh, NC & Raven Price, Stockbridge, GA; three precious great-grandchildren that warmed her heart, Perry Johnson III, Kaylee Johnson and Caleb Allen Bow whom she affectionately called “Mr. Bow”; loving brothers, Jeremiah Moore and Albert (Gloria) Moore; a host of special nieces and nephews; family in love, Roberta Franklin & family, Beverly Garner and Bradley Garner. Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Johnson, Sr., Johnie B. McDaniel, Sr.; parents, George & Mildred Zimmerman Moore; grandparents, Rev. Hardy & Katherine Moore, Joseph & Doretha Zimmerman; brother, George Moore Jr; sister, Ira Mae Moore; sister-in-laws; Elizabeth Moore, Bea Moore and Teresa Johnson, daughter-in-law, Iris Johnson; dear cousin, Doretha Collins. The family would like to express special thanks to Tracey Pennington, M.D., Mary Immaculate Hospital, York Nursing and Rehabilitation and Convolence Center and Virginia Health Services for their unyielding care and support of our Mother. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday. July 7, 2023, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI with funeral services commencing at 11:00AM. Dr. Marvin T. Smith will officiate.
