Mr. Michael Undra Sawyer

Michael Undra Sawyer “Moon” was born February 18, 1958 in Birmingham, Alabama the sixth son of nine children of Eddie and Nellie Mae (Thompson) Sawyer. Michael is honored as a son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and mostly a Military Soldier. Moon received his wings to go home with the Lord to rest in peace on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Moon was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan and a graduate of Buena Vista High School “Class of 1976” after which he immediately joined the United States Marine Corps. serving four years and received an honorable discharge. After serving an additional 22 years in the National Army Guard Reserves, he retired. Moon’s adventure continued working for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier in Clinton, MD for five years, he later returned to Saginaw in the year 2000. He worked for a small operation plant in Bay City, MI until he became ill. He was a man of great pride, never wanted to be involved in any chaos, he treated everyone with kindness. His heart was full of love and would give anyone the shirt off his back. He always looked out for others before himself even when he was on his sick bed. Michael had a love for old time western movies, thrillers and believe it or not, cartoons. He loved to keep up on the sports especially since his nephew Otis is a Defensive Back at Eastern Michigan University and was a TRUE MSU fan. His desire was to keep up with extracurricular activities with his grand-children even when he no longer could. His greatest joy was having a daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren; they survive him, Michelle (Doug) Coleman, Doug, Jr. and Christian Coleman, all of Saginaw, MI; two sisters, Delores Gayles and Joyce Stribling both of Saginaw, MI; two brothers, Ronald and Derrick Sawyer, Sr., Saginaw, MI; one uncle, John (Gloria) Thomas, Newport News, VA; four nieces, Pamela Sawyer, Archia (Otis) Jackson, Jr., Shadana Jackson, Saginaw, MI, Shilena Henderson, Atlanta, GA; five nephews, Ervin Sawyer and Derrick Sawyer, Jr. both of Saginaw, MI, Johnny Gayles, Jr., Ann Arbor, MI, Tito McKinney, Sherman Oaks, Ca; Germaine Helton of Atlanta, GA; four great-nieces, Chaerra Layton, Arreanna and Raven Sawyer, all of Saginaw, MI and Latia Jackson, Detroit, MI; three great-nephews, Otis Jackson III, Ypsilanti, MI, Rayvon and Trayvon Sawyer, Saginaw, MI; other relatives and friends including special friend Darryl Pruitt of Saginaw. Mr. Sawyer was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Sawyer; sister, Eddie Mae Sawyer; brothers, Charles “Jeff”, Bennie and Ernest Sawyer; aunt, Jessie Foster; grandparents, Maria and Charlie Thomas; and best friend, Byron Gardner. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until of service.
