Mr. Roosevelt "Sam" "Soldier Boy" Boyd

Mr. Roosevelt Boyd “Sam” was born April 6, 1939 in Clarksdale, Mississippi the son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie and Minnie (Young) Boyd. Roosevelt accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He resided in Michigan, California and Texas before returning to Saginaw, Michigan as his final residence. He passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at the age of 85 years. “Sam” graduated from Saginaw High School in 1957. He was employed at Grey Iron Plant, General Motors Corp. and was a member of the UAW Local #668. And later he enlisted in the Unites States Army. During his 12-year tour of active duty, Mr. Roosevelt Boyd served in the Vietnam War and later joined the Army Reserve and the National Guard. “Sam” enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His favorite TV shows were westerns (Cowboy and Indian movies). He loved sports, football and basketball were his favorites: he was an avid “Wolverine” fan. Reading was one of his favorite hobbies that allowed him to be very knowledgeable, this enabled him to play along with his favorite game show, “Jeopardy”. Mr. Boyd was a loving daddy, granddaddy, great-granddaddy, great-great-granddaddy and uncle whom we truly loved, as well as the rest of his family and friends. Our dad was very humorous and we are going to miss his favorite sayings, “I ain’t do it” and “Inna minute” and he was adamant about his last name and would spell out: ‘B-O-Y-D”! period. Mr. Boyd will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Roosevelt Boyd leaves to cherish his memory eight children, James (Sharron) Boyd, Waco, TX, Debra (Minister Michael) Coleman, Edward Cole and Janet Cole all of Saginaw, Melissa Boyd Landrum, Virginia Beach, VA, Lashon (Lloyd) Boyd-Vaughn, Steven (LaTonya) Boyd and Sameka Boyd all of Richmond, CA; 26 grandchildren, Nickel (Danielle), Sheron (Kevin), LaTasha all of Texas; Leon (Olivia) Cedell, Tanasuhe, Takeyya, Elijah, all of Michigan, Deon and Shante, both of Washington State, Darryl, Dae’Shon, Michael, Ciarra, David, Alicia, Sephanie, Samantha, Shayla, Steven, Jr., Jordan, Carlajanae, ChristaBella, James, Jr., all of California, Mekeya and Monique both of Virginia Beach, VA; 27 great-grandchildren; ten great- great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Jerry (Glenn) Moore, Saginaw; one nephew, Lee Porter (Geraldine) Rockett, Kansas City, MO; a host of many relatives and friends including special friend, Ethel Boyd-Lindsey and caregiver, Vicky Hibler. Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Minnie Boyd; one sister, Beatrice Robinson; two nephews, Joe and Louis Rockett; one niece, Gearldine Robinson; two special friends, Jocelyn Boyd Range and June Cole. Special thanks to Pastor Robert B. Corley, Jr. and the Prince of Peace Baptist Church family, Aleda E. Lutz VA Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Caregiver, Vicky Hibler, Helen Thomas, Kimberly Wilson and Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Prince of Peace Baptist Church, 725 N. 24th St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Robert Corley will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Visitation will take place on Monday at the funeral home from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
