Mr. Roy John Martin

Mr. Roy John Martin, 71, left his earthly home peacefully at his home on December 20th, 2023 after several months post-surgical complications with his living companion by his side. Roy was born June 3, 1952 to the late Rosie B. (Williams) Martin and Abel Martin, Sr. in Saginaw, MI. He retired from Delphi Corporation. Believing “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” and knowing Jesus saves, Roy reaffirmed his faith under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Dennis E. Laffoon of Bethel AME Church. He demonstrated his faith in both words action throughout his life. He had a giving heart and genuine love for his family and friends. Roy’s greeting words when you’d call or visit was “hey hun” and his parting words to family was always “I love you.” He was always a very pleasant and friendly man with a positive spirit seeing good in all. He spent his life believing no matter his circumstances God was indeed good to him and in control of his future. His pastimes were playing chess, photography and listening to his favorite musical artists, The Temptations and Marvin Gaye. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, one sister, Josie McCray, brothers; John “Pete” Martin, Pierce “Tim” Martin, Joe Henry “Nug” Martin, Donald “Dickie” Martin and Dan “Paul Gates” Martin; nephew Timothy Jerome McMillon, close friend Mrs. Mertis Davis- (Bill) Martin and Man’s friend better known as “MAC.” Roy leaves to cherish his memories one son, Mr. Roy John Martin, Jr. brothers, Mr. Abel (Abe) Martin, Jr., and Larry C. “Heavy” Martin, one sister, Ms. Claudine “Penny” Fife, Canton, MI known to all as his “Loving Best Friend”. Nephews, Eric and Askia Martin; Nieces; Lisa McCray, Cheri Lockwood, Canton, MI, LaTangela Brown Lawton, OK, Marquitta Martin, Rita McGlothin GA and Tracy McMillon, Ann Arbor, MI. And his “Pet” Kimberly A. Napoleon, whom he loved and provided for as his own daughter. Great nieces, NaTashua (Ben) Crosby and Brittany Lockwood, Reston, VA and Ms. Ti’Kyra Napoleon, whom he affectionately gave his same childhood nickname name of “Tee-Watzy” (Lansing, MI) Roy also leaves his loving companion of 25 years and caregiver, Ms. Cheryl Jordan; sisters-in-law, Ida C. Martin, Rose Martin and Shirley Martin. He also leaves lifelong friends Ms. Donna Hughes, Ms. LouAnne King and Mr. Clinton McMillon, Jr. and a host of cousins. Special thank you to Rev. Dr. Dennis E. and Mrs. Laffoon and Mr. Houston Jackson, Jr. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 535 Cathay St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Dr. Dennis Laffoon will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601 Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. The family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
