Mrs. Sherry R. O'Neal

Mrs. Sherry Renee O’Neal passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the age of 54 years. She was born January 31, 1961 in Saginaw, MI to Behannah Curtis and Elvira Bobbie (Bowens) Scott. Sherry was one of the founding members of Center of Attraction Outreach and later became a member of Saginaw Valley Community Church. She graduated from Saginaw High School “Class of 1979”. Sherry was passionate about staying at home to raise her daughters, a role that she cherished and loved. Once all of her children were of school age she decide to work as a teacher’s aide while continuing her education. During this busy time Sherry always made it a priority to attend all of her daughter’s activities. Sherry graduated Magna Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Arts in Teaching. She went on to teach special education in the Saginaw Public School District for 14 years. She strived to encourage and inspire young children to become successful in school and in life. Mrs. O’Neal was extremely creative, she authored the book L.J. and the DreamMaker and also created word and board games. She loved exercising, biking, reading and most importantly, spending time in the Word. Sherry loved to worship God with flags, an outward expression of the praise that was her in her heart. Every time she spoke to someone she had an encouraging word or a scripture to share. Sherry loved writing down scriptures and posting them in every room of the house. Her favorite scripture was “Psalm 91” and can be recited by her two grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband of 31 years, Amos O’Neal, (Sherry and Amos had been together for over 38 years). They have three beautiful daughters, Tawanna (Doyace) Wilson, Amy (Fabrian) Thomas and Jessica O’Neal. Sherry also has five grandchildren, Lauren Huell, Laurance Huell, Kalyn Wilson, Brenae Thomas and Lamar Thomas; sister, Tammy (Walter) Brown, Lima, OH; brothers, Michael (Shan) Williams, Detroit, MI and Tony Scott, Lima, OH; uncle, Leslie Bowens, Saginaw, MI; cousin, Pauline McGee; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Mrs. O’Neal was preceded in death by her parents, Behannah Curtis and Elvira Bobbie Scott; uncle, Joe Bowens; and aunt, Madeline Crawford. The family would like to express special thanks to, the staff at Covenant Medical Center SICU, especially Danae, Nancy, Justin, Jackie, Kevin, Jeremy, McKenna, the Nurse Practitioner, Kris and the staff at Oncology Hematology Associates of Saginaw Valley. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Saginaw Valley Community Church, 3660 Hermansau Road. Pastor Dick Sayad will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home Friday, January 22, 2016 from 2:00- 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
