Elder Silas Brazil, Sr.

Mr. Silas Brazil, Sr. passed away on June 19, 2016, at the age of 93 years old. He was the fifth child and the third son born to Bernice and C. L. C. Brazil on October 26, 1922, in Boynton, Oklahoma. GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES! Mr. Brazil served in the United States Army in World War II from September 4, 1943 to January 16, 1946 and received many medals for his service. Mr. Brazil received a medal for the American Campaign; a medal for the European African Mid-Eastern Campaign; Victory medal for World War II; and a medal for Army Good Conduct. Mr. Brazil also served as a mechanic for the Tuskegee Airmen. Mr. Brazil could fix anything pertaining to vehicles, to plumbing, electrical work and even built a church. PRAISE THE LORD! Mr. Brazil, moved to Saginaw, MI in 1948 where he was a faithful and dedicated employee for General Motors (Grey Iron Foundry) and retired after 31 years of service. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and received the “Holy Ghost with Fire” in 1950, while working in the Foundry. He was a faithful member and Elder of Grant Street Church of God In Christ, before moving to San Francisco, CA in 1982. Elder Brazil returned to Saginaw in 2007 to reunite with his children and attended New Beginnings Life Changing Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Otis Dickens. Elder Brazil truly loved the Lord and the word of GOD. Elder Silas Brazil, Sr. met his first wife, Bernice Everett in 1946; and was united in marriage in 1948 in Tijuana, Mexico. To that union, they were blessed with four sons and five daughters. Elder Brazil leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Wendy Taylor of San Diego, CA, Linda Harris of Saginaw, MI, Barbara Brazil of Fontana, CA, Silas (Pamelia) Brazil, Jr., Daniel (Edna) Brazil, Hazel Brazil Lewis, Naomi (Steven) Martin, and John (Gwen) Brazil, all of Saginaw, MI; stepchildren, Jean Thompson, Marty Alexander and Joseph Johnson, all of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Lloyd and Alfred Brazil, both of Los Angeles, CA; special nieces, Bernice (Steve) Clay of Wichita Falls, TX and Grace (Bland) Burks of Gilmar, TX; special daughter-in-law, Celestine Buckley; Elder Brazil also leaves behind 39 grandchildren; 102 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren and many other relatives; special friends, Ozzie Rideout, James and Betsy Nash, Pastor Otis Dickens, Pastor James Snead and Superintendent J. L. and First Lady Carolyn Ward of Trinity Mission, COGIC of San Bernardino, CA. Elder Silas Brazil, Sr. was preceded in death by first wife, Bernice Everett-Brazil, and wife, Evetta Nash-Brazil; son Stanley Brazil; step-son, William McCray; daughter-in-law, Jena Brazil; grandchildren, Shauntel (Twin) Harris-Jenkins, Deyon Brazil, Daniel Abraham, and D’Laurence McCall; step-grandson, Rodney Johnson; great-grandchild, Terrance Harris; mother and father; brothers, C.L.C., Lacy, Andrew, Arthur Charles, Collis and Zellar Brazil; sisters; Flaugh Morgan, Mary Lueise Brown and Maude Brazil and special friend, Superintendent Theodore Monroe. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Silas Brazil, Jr. will officiate. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
