Staff Sergeant Kamien A. Stanford

Staff Sergeant Kamien Stanford passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 in Ansbach, Germany at the age of 28 years. He was a 2003 graduate of Saginaw High School and joined the U.S. Army in 2008, where he served in Iraq and Afghanistan before his final promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Kamien enlisted in the United States Army in 2008 as a Signal Support Specialist. After his initial entry training, he was assigned to a military police company in Fort Drum, New York. He then was deployed to Iraq in 2009. After returning in 2010, he was sent to Germany where he served in Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 3-158. He deployed with the unit in March 2012 and led a team of eight soldiers at two sites in western Afghanistan. Finally, he returned to Germany in 2013 where he was promoted to Staff Sergeant for the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. Kamien is survived by his mother, Lynn Stanford of Fort Wayne, IN; father, Eddie Tarver of Saginaw, MI; grandmother, Catherine Walker of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Nedra Stanford of Fort Wayne, IN, Keyion Stanford of Indianapolis, IN, Toneen Barnette and Tiwanna Barnette-Bird, both of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers, Jason Tarver and Corey Wilson; many nieces and nephews; aunts, Andrea Stanford (Ricky) and Marnette Stanford, both of Fort Wayne, IN and Silvia Stanford of Phoenix, AZ; uncles, Augustus C. Stanford, of Phoenix, AZ and John Tarver; special cousins, Sharonda Stanford of Fort Wayne, IN, Jonathan Pippins of Indianapolis, IN and DeEddie Stanford of Fort Wayne, IN, and many other relatives and friends, including special friends, Silvon Lee of North Dakota, PFC Rodavius “Rook” McCord, SPC Deveron Green of North Carolina, SSG Lonnay Battle of Germany, SGT Justin Childers, SSG Tremaine Marshall of Germany, Shkeshia Hannibal, SFC Terrance Moody, Dale Tatum and Micheal Ramsey. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Augustus and Mattie Mae Stanford, both of Saginaw, MI; and two brothers, Leo Stanford of Indianapolis, IN and Reginald Lamont Tarver of Saginaw, MI. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave. Pastor Harold Johnson will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.
