Al Holiday

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at St. Mary’s of Michigan surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Holiday was born October 25, 1953 in Saginaw, MI to Odessa (Ray) Jones and James C. Holiday. They preceded him in death. Al accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. He began his employment at the age of 16 years at A & P Grocery Store on Genesee and Cherry Streets. In 1972, he worked briefly at the Eaton Corp. and later was employed by Saginaw Steering Gear where he became EAP Rep. He retired from Delphi in 2001. Mr. Holiday graduated from Arthur Hill Technical High School in 1971. He was also a graduate of Delta College and Central Michigan University. Other accomplishments of Mr. Holiday were Saginaw County Commissioner (5 terms), 1st Black Chairman, Saginaw County Board of Commissioners, A. Phillip Randolph Institute, Delegate of Democratic National Convention, Life member of NAACP, CAP Council, Saginaw County Mental Health Board, Saginaw County Housing Commission, Saginaw County Public Health Board, and the Saginaw County Human Services. Al always had a concern for helping the underprivileged. His memory will be cherished by one son, Byron Holiday; one daughter, Brandi (Quincy) Hayes; two stepsons, Johnny (Andrea) Austin and Jarvis Austin; four grandchildren who were the love of his life, Solathian (Quan) Holiday, Quintaja, Gabrielle, and Quincy Hayes, Jr.; one brother, Dennis (Emma) Morrison; six sisters, Ernestine Ray of Blytheville, AR, Ruth Morrison and Diane Morrison (Larry) of Saginaw, MI, Brenda Coleman of Grand Rapids, MI, Debra Williams and Cheryl (Ricky) Nash, both of Saginaw, MI; his fiancé, Sheryl Williams; godchild, Diamond Morrison; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including special friends, Kenneth Fields, Bill Dugan, Parrish Anderson, Cleophus (Claudette) Bray, Gary McClain, and Dexter Holiday. Mr. Holiday was preceded in death by his biological father, Pressie Fentress; step-father, Albert Jones; one brother, Curtis Sumler; and one sister, Regina Day. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Wolverine State Baptist Headquarters, 615 South Jefferson Avenue. Pastor Willie Hill, Jr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
