Mr. Alphonso N. Jamison

On Thursday, January 19, 2017, Officer and Gentleman, Alphonso Nicholas Jamison, earned his wings and has been commissioned to serve in Heaven. He resides there with his parents, Bertha Myers and Hallis Jamison; his step-father, Elihue Myers; his sisters, Velvet Bigbee and Selma Grays. Alphonso Nicholas Jamison was born on September 12, 1947 in Roanoke, VA. The family moved to Saginaw, MI, where he later graduated from Buena Vista High School. In 1971, he began his career as a Saginaw Police Officer. Throughout his career, he attended several universities for further training in criminal law. In 1994, after 23 years of distinguished service, he retired from the Saginaw Police Department. Upon his retirement, Michigan U.S.. Senator Carl Levin described him as a role model for community members and area youth, in particular. He was active in Community Relations/Crime Watch Groups. He assisted at-risk youth, which sometimes included the resolution of conflicts between gangs. His concern with youth drug problems prompted him to organize "Just Say No" drug prevention rallies for youth, as well as, the Houghton-Jones Area Task Force and the "Dribble Against Drugs" program. He was promoted numerous times during his career and earned many certificates from several universities for special training and educational achievement. He was a member of the National Black Police Officers Association, and was singled out for meritorious service within the Saginaw Police Department for special recognition by community organizations. Alphonso was baptized at Corinthian Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and prided himself on catching the largest Walleye in Canada, in May of 1986. He also enjoyed tinkering with toys, and keeping up with the latest and most advanced technology. He leaves to cherish his memory, Sarah Bowman Jamison, his devoted wife of 42 years; his son, Alphonso Jamison; brother, Ronald Jamison, Roanoke, VA.; granddaughters, Mariah DeWitt, Traverse City, MI and Alizabeth Jamison, Chesterfield, MI; god-children, Kasey Johnson (Gunnery Sergeant Christopher, USMC) Morgan, Streetsboro, Ohio, Anthony Green, Little Rock, AR, James Sanders, Jr, Saginaw, MI, Preston Lindsay, Jr., Bay City, MI., D'Anthony Harrell, Marietta, GA; sisters-in-law, Mavis (John) Green, Little Rock, AR. and Alma (Rev. Willie) Woodmoore, Dardenne Prairie, MO; brothers-in-law, David (Alma) Bowman, Marvell, AR. and Preston (Freddie) Bowman, Jonesboro, AR; nieces, Shirley Taylor, Bertha Bell, Yolanda Seay, Berta (Mark) Ford, all of Saginaw, and Brenda (David) Moore, Lansing, MI; nephews, Tony Saunders, Byron Montrel, Daniel Montrel, all of Saginaw, and Gerald Montrel, Houston, Texas; special friends, Stanley Howell and Dennis Elmore, both of Saginaw, MI, and Kenneth Barnett, Las Vegas, NV.. The family would like to thank the staff at Covenant and St. Mary's Hospitals for over 20 years of care; and, a very special thank you to the Reverend Dr. Roy Manning and First Lady Beatrice Manning. for the 20 Plus years of never giving up on them. Their kindness shall never be forgotten. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 104 South 10th Street. Pastor Roy Manning, Sr. will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m.
