Mr. Alvin "Uncle Al", "Tido" Young

Alvin "Uncle Al" Young was born November 26, 1928 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Adam and Ida (Gauthier) Young. He passed away on June 2, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Alvin was educated in the Public Schools of Opelousas, LA. He relocated to Saginaw, Michigan in 1947 and became a long time resident. Mr. Young was employed at Saginaw Malleable Iron General Motors Corp., and was a member of U.A.W. Local #455. He retired after 27 years of service. His nickname in the neighborhood was “Uncle Al”. Alvin was of creole decent and was known as "Tido" meaning “Little Sweet”. He would do anything for you until you made him mad, then there was no changing his mind. His hobbies included fishing, riding motorcycles, and traveling by car. He leaves to cherish many memories his devoted wife, Elizabeth (Jones) Young, Saginaw, MI; four children, Gregory Cross, Robin Duane Young both of Danay, AL, Keith Williams, Southfield, MI and Mattie B. Leonard, Cincinnati, OH; 25 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estelle White, Tempe, AZ and Julia King, Opelousas, LA; one sister-in-law, Rosita Young, California; five brothers-in-law, Edward (Dorothy), Julius (Geneva), Willie (Loretta), Derrick (Charlotte) and Debra (Romiles) Clark; special cousin, Pastor Emeritus Dr. Roosevelt Austin, Sr. and family; a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, other cousins, relatives and friends including special friends, Jimmy heard and Tim. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Ida Young; three sisters, Shay, Shirley and Lou; five brothers, Bernard, George, John, Welton and Nathan. The family would like to thank everyone at Great Lakes Rehab, Hoyt Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, Avista Nursing and Rehab Facility, the Hospice companies. I would also like to thank Dr. Brent Boggess and the other doctor and nurses that assisted with Alvin’s care. I also wish to thank all my friends, relatives, neighbors and my church family for all their acts of kindness. Visitation will take place from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. A private funeral service will be held. Pastor Derrick Jones will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S.
