Mr. Archie Lee Tanner

Mr. Archie Lee Tanner was born March 15, 1939 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was the second son of the late Alonzo and Sylvia T. Jackson. He answered God’s call to his eternal home on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Archie was educated in the public school system of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was the owner of Tanner Trucking for many years as an owner operator truck driver. Archie loved to travel, especially to visit and spend time with his grandchildren. He also had a huge passion for hunting, fishing, and cooking. Archie accepted Christ at an early age at Zones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Bovina, Mississippi under the leadership of Reverend Chesterfield. Archie relocated from Vicksburg, Mississippi to Pontiac, Michigan in 1964 and later to Saginaw, Michigan in 1971. On December 14, 1960, Archie married Laura Lee Parker. To this union, one daughter was born; Dr. Sylvia D. Gholston. Archie leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Laura Lee Tanner of Saginaw, Michigan; his only daughter, Dr. Sylvia (Reginald) Gholston, Sr.; three grandchildren, Reginald (RJ) Gholston, Jr., Quincy Latrell Gholston and Briana Michelle Gholston; brother, James (Vonnie) Jackson; special cousin, that was like a sister, Mella Wilson; sisters-in-law, Carrie (Rev. Cornelius) Johnson, Dorothy (James) Cain, Hattie Parker, Carrol Wilson, Alice Akins, Verna (Robert) Henry; brother-in-law, Michael Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Archie was preceded in death by Easter Wiggins, great grandmother who raised him; grandparents, Ezekiel and Dora Tanner; Alonzo and Sylvia T. Jackson; and brother, Robert Tanner. Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue. Pastor Walter McCall, Sr. will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
