Mrs. Arneatha McKenzie

Our beloved Arneatha (Little) McKenzie passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at her home at the age of 73 years. She was born April 20, 1943 in Panola, Alabama the fourth child of Morris and Mittie (Thompkins) Little. The family later moved to Scooba, MS where she grew up surrounded by a large family. Nita was educated in Noxubee and Kemper County school system in Mississippi where she graduated from Whisenton High School, Class of 1962. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Green Chapel Baptist Church under Rev. F.E. Edmonds, Sr. She found peace and contentment in her last years serving at The Church Without Walls under the leadership of her brother, Pastor Jimmy Little, Sr. On January 18, 1992, after two years of courtship, Nita united in marriage to Alfred L. McKenzie. Nita was employed at Sodexho as Food Service Manager for Health Source Saginaw for more than 30 years. Nita leaves to cherish many precious memories, her husband, Alfred McKenzie; a loving son, Morris D. “Ricky” (Yolanda) Pruitt and their children, Jamie (Trudie) McLeod, Bryant Miller II, Briana Stringer, Jene Pruitt and Morris D. Pruitt, Jr.; three step-children, Ronald D. McKenzie, Rhonda D. (Tyrone) Bridgewater and Maurice R. McKenzie; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Pruitt of Saginaw, MI and Vivian “Betty” Clark of Meridian, MS; two brothers, John Little of Saginaw, MI and Pastor Jimmy (Lucille) Little of Saginaw, MI; an aunt, Charlotte Stanton of Panola, AL; one uncle, Laundry Little of Tuscaloosa, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Mittie Little; one daughter, Brenda Gail Pruitt; one brother, Morris Little, Jr.; a sister, Eva Neil Little; her beloved mother and father-in-law, Nettie B. and Lloyd McKenzie. The family extends special thanks to her private caregivers, Danyell Butler and Brittany Richardson; Wellspring Hospice Nurse, Jason; and Cathy, case manager from Covenant Hospital. Family hour will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 2233 King Road with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Walter McCall Host Pastor. Pastor Jimmy Little, Sr. will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
