Ms. Barbara Ann Bates

Mrs. Barbara Bates transitioned on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the age of 69 years. She was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on September 13,1952 to Robert Boles and Sara Washington. The family later moved to Saginaw, Michigan where she attended schools and resided util her untimely death. In 1984 she met and married the love of her life, Allan Bates. Barbara worked at several General Motors Plants before she retired. Decorating was her passion and she also loved cooking. She was the Kool-Aid Queen. Barbara was known for making the best Kool-Aid in the world. She was not only the matriarch of her family; she was known as Big Momma, Momma, Granny, Nana, Grand Ma, Auntie, The Queen and many other sweet names. Barbara was also known by her famous quote to her family and friend, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” with a laugh. Mrs. Barbara Ann Bates leaves to cherish many memories: one daughter, Devia Boles; two sons, Derrick and Dedrick Boles, all of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Brittany Boles, Savannah Price, Monique Boles, MyKail Williams and Latreze Mushatt, all of Saginaw, MI, Shanika Barnett, Channon Minor, Ciaunni (Michael) Langston, Bre Asia Aguilar, Nasir and Amonce Jimenez and Arial Williams; great-grandchildren, Elisha and Elias Tillman, Bryce Langston and Kenadi Williams; sisters, Yvonne Ryan, Diane Boles, Columbus, OH, Shirley Hughes of Saginaw, MI, Sabrina Satchell and Judy Finch; brothers, Steven, Anthony and Robert Boles, all of Saginaw, MI and Cornelius Berry, Columbus, OH; god-daughter, “Shay Shay” and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Bates; parents, Robert Boles and Sara Berry; three brothers, Horace Washington, Sr., James and Raymond Berry. Hats off to all of her children who were really and truly there for their mom and grandma. You’ve all set great examples for the young people of B.V, also a special thanks to Ricky Garza and Sherenia Parks. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Eugene Burton will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Visitation 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
