Mrs. Barbara J. Houston

Ms. Barbara Jean Houston passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the age of 61 years. She was born June 21, 1954 in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of Mary Lois Rowe and Nathaniel Garrett. Barbara was raised in Saginaw, Michigan and was a member of House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church since 2009. Barbara went to Saginaw Public Schools. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, decorating her home, going to church and spending time with family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. She will be missed for her cooking, yelling and attending family functions. Ms. Barbara Jean Houston leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Denise Michelle Williams and Laticia Nakia Faye Williams “Lady”; six grandchildren, Y’Keyaha Williams, Thomas McKinley, Jr., John Prater, Jr., Nyashia Williams, Evee’ Cooper, Jr. and Trinity Mc Kinley; four great-grandchildren, Key’Miyah Brooks, Thomas McKinley III, John Prater III and Taylor McKinley; two sisters, Noreen (Nelson) Smooth and Deborah Henry; nieces, Cathie Williams, Tia Williams, Sade Williams and Sparkle Williams; niece/goddaughter, Ashley Williams; nephews, Raymond Williams, Reginald Williams, Arsenio Williams, Corey Williams, Anthony Williams and Devantae Williams; godson, Robert McCulloh; ten great nieces and nephews, Dominic Johnson, Jr., DaPerrius Johnson, Da’Perria Johnson, Cecil Hibbler, Cam’ren Hibbler, Stephon Williams, Thomas Williams, Ariana Ashford, Majesty Williams, Skye Williams and Ni’ana Williams; special aunt Julia Pringle; two special cousins, Dorothy Jean McCulloh and Cathie (Arthur) Berryhill; a host of other relatives and friends including, Helen Neal, Phyliss Phillips, Hattie Parker, Carrie Johnson, Rev. Walter McCall, Paulette McCall and James Brooks. Ms. Houston was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lois Rowe and Nathaniel Garrett; grandmother, Eula Mae Rowe; grandfather, Nathan Rowe; sisters, Brenda, Lisa, Shirley and Margaret Williams; brothers, Dennis Williams, Billy Rowe, Curley Williams, James and Anthony Garrett; cousin/goddaughter, Sheila Clement. The family would like to express special thanks to House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church family, Delores Ezell and Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 2233 King Road. Pastor Walter McCall will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Ave., on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
