Ben Washington

Born May 28, 1932 Transition: June 24, 2005 Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street, Rev. Paul E. Broaddus, Pastor. Pastor Henry Givens will officiate with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Ave. on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present at 7:00 p.m. for a Family Hour. Ben Newsome Washington passed away suddenly on June 24, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper. He was born May 28, 1932 in Doddsville, Mississippi to the proud parents, James and Emma Newsome. Again the Lord has seen it necessary to call home another one of his children. He chose a loving, caring and devoted father, son, grandfather, brother and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted mother Emma Newsome Stephens of Muskegon, MI; two daughters, Sheila Newsome and Holly (Will) Barnes, both of Saginaw; six sons, Lavern Corneil of Traverse City, MI, Warren Wesley, Glen Jackson, Gregory Jackson, Deon Moten and Duane (Yahonna) Moten, all of Saginaw; one sister, Catherine Harris of Muskegon; one brother, Sye (Bobbie) Cooper of California; five sisters-in-law, Norma Newsome of Muskegon, Mary (Peter) Gates, Betty (Spivy) Haynes, both of Saginaw, Helen (Glen) Brown of Texas, Willa (Rodney) Walters of Kalamazoo; two brothers-in-law, Charles Johnson of Saginaw, Jack (Annie) Johnson of Iowa; four god-daughters, Kendra Lewis, Inez Williams, Sharee Sweeney of Saginaw and Sheila Wilkins of Illinois; special friends, Shirley Jones, Kenny Johnson, Henry Sweeney and Silas; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Washington; son, Ben (Puddin) Washington; father, James Newsome; step-father, Thomas Stephens; two brothers, Jim Newsome and Robert Stephens; mother-in-law, Linnie Mae Johnson; father-in-law, Jack Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Arthur Sanders, Enice Harris and Jimmie Sanders; two grandchildren, DeAndre Wesley and Pokie Wesley.
