Mrs. Bernice "Rabbit" Bell

On December 26, 2016 at 4:13 p.m. an Angel gained her wings. Bernice Jones-Bell entered Heaven the way she entered any room, smiling with her lipstick on, makeup flawless, lashes popping and with the attitude like I have arrived. Those that knew Bernice knew that she never half-stepped at anything. She was born July 5, 1959 in Greenwood, Mississippi the daughter of Henry and Lillian Jones. Bernice was an active proud member of New Life Holy Temple for many years. She was a resident of Saginaw, MI and attended Ruben Daniels. Her most precious accomplishment was getting her high school diploma and then her Associates Degree from Delta College in 2013 in Early Childhood Development. Bernice worked with various schools throughout the Saginaw Public School District. She loved driving the buses for Stars Transit and being a crossing guard for the Saginaw Police Dept. Bernice loved being surrounded by family and friends, laughing, eating, talking, talking and talking some more. Bernice enjoyed shopping even when she wasn’t able to go any more she would turn on QVC and shopped from home. Her drive in life and everything she did revolved around her husband, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews this is what she lived for. Bernice loved being a wife, mother and grandmother because her family and friends was her world. Mrs. Bernice Jones-Bell leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Cleophas Bell; three daughters, Lillian Jones, Denise Mayes and Tasha Bell; three sons, Aaron Mayes, Eddie (Canjalett) Mayes and Stanley Bell; three step-children, Michelle McNeal, Shavon Bell and Shanel Bell; 14 grandchildren, Cle’Anna, Heather, Ray’Ona and Kevon Jones, Jeanae Baynes, Mar’Vianna, MarTavia, Eddie Jr. and D’Eddie Mayes, Isaac Laster, AirOnna Mayes, Ray’Monte Jones, Cerenity Mayes and De’Quavion Bell; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Totten and Faye Jones; brother, Jerry Jones; five nieces, Tiffany Dennis, Stephanie Jones, Erika Jones, Angela Jones and Christine Totten; nine nephews, Quincy Jones, Terrance Jones, Andre, Brandon Jones, Walter, Morris, Eric, Julion and Julius Totten; seven aunts, Lillie Mae Frazier, special aunt, Rose Diggs, Lillie Mae, Dorothy Lucas, Ophelia Holmes and Geneva Davis; three uncles, Charlie Jackson, Charlie Johnson and King Henry Jackson; cousins, Sherri (Ron) Williams, Lynn Jackson, Fredrick Ward, Tony Jackson, Tim Jackson, Rex Laury, Vivian Spiller, Perry (Doris) Laury; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Magby, Barbara Jones and Denise Thornton; three brothers-in-law, Shedrick Thornton, Larry “Pete” Johnson and Jerry Choyce; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Gloria (Albert) Hines, Celeste Bell, Charles and Rose Kelly family, Nesby and Shirley Garrett, Katharine Koty, Emerson Street family, South Warren Street family, Randolph family, Star family, S.P.D. family, Herman Mayes and Bishop Zachary and first Lady Vina Williamson. Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lillian Jones; grandparents, Walter and Josephine Johnson, King Henry Jackson; brother, Terry Jones; brother-in-law, Julius Totten; sister-in-law Katherine Bell; cousins, Earlie Mae Carpenter and Mary Jackson; aunts Mary Ward and Albert Longstreet. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Muhultra and staff, hospital staff at Americans Home Healthcare and Hospice Care. To all of our family and friends that were too numerous to mention thank you from the bottom of our heart. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at New Life Holy Temple, 1200 East Genesee Avenue. Bishop Zachary Williamson will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends.
