Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Candle Light Baptist Church, 3309 Ruckle Street. Pastor Jimmie L. Simington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present at 6:00 p.m. for a family hour. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at her home, with her family by her side. Age 96 years. Madea was born October 29, 1913 in Perry County, AL, the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Mary Perkins. She was a faithful member of Candle Light Baptist Church until her health failed her. She was a member of the Mother’s Board and Golden Girls. Madea loved to cook for her family, friends and neighbors. Everybody was always welcome to come to her house for a meal. Madea loved to sit, talk and joke with everybody. She was indeed the comedian of the family. She always had everybody laughing. Madea also enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening and most of all, spending time with her family, friends and neighbors. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Annie (Wallace) Anderson, Leola (Bobby) Beal, Craig Young, Jr., Viola (John) Torrence, Nathaniel Young, Clarence Young and Bertha Turner, all of Saginaw, MI; 48 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; Goddaughter, Florence Baber; nieces and nephews, James Perkins, Jr., Margaret Perkins, Nora Perkins, Cora Thomas, Eddie Perkins, James Coleman, Jr., Fannie Harris, Carol Coleman, Mary Coleman, Shirley Cage, Lavern Bailey, Catherine Perkins, Alice Jean Perkins, Sam Perkins and John Perkins and special friends, Hattie Torrence, Lillie Dawkins, Florene Tyson and Ruth Farris. Madea was preceded in death by her husband, Craig Young, Sr.; two sons, Willie "Sweet Black" Young and Ernest (Dee) Perkins; a grandson, Oneal "Pete" Givan; granddaughter, Latasha Norman; brothers, James Perkins, Sr. and Nathanieal Perkins; sisters, Fannie Coleman and Alice Swift; nephews, William Perkins and Robert Perkins. The family would like to express special thanks to her son and special soldier, Clarence Young and daughter, Viola Torrence, who both cared for Madea faithfully, the American Hospice, Lisa Voletal, Margo Josh, Michelle Adkins and Deloris Carter. Madea was greatly loved and will be missed dearly.
