Mrs. Betty "Bet " Lue Porter

Mrs. Betty Lue (Brown) “Bet Lue” Porter, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Covenant Healthcare Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan after a lengthy illness at the age of 69 years. Betty was born March 19, 1949, the sixth child of the late Eddie James and Josephine Cleo (Anderson) Brown. She was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan and attended Saginaw Public Schools. Betty was a graduate of Saginaw High School, “Class of '67”. She was employed with General Motors Corporation for 22 years where she rose through the ranks to become the first female pipefitter. She was a member of UAW Local 668 and a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church. Betty was a very classy and quiet woman, but when you made her mad… “Bet Lue” loved fashion, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, traveling, collecting dolls and spending time with her family and friends. Betty was an advocate for continuing education and she believed in being self-sufficient. Her wonderful presence will truly be missed. Betty leaves to honor her memory, her loving husband of 32 years, James Porter; daughters, Angela (Troy) Friday of Detroit, MI and Ericka (Benjamin) Lockett of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four grandchildren, Quan, Daylon, Ashley and Aijalon; a grand puppy, Madison; two brothers, James (Berdetta) Brown, Rochester Hills, MI and Robert Brown, Englewood, NJ; two sisters, Hellen (Thomas) Smith, Las Vegas, NV and Mary (Arthur) Edwards, Riverside, CA; four sisters-in-law, Rochelle Jones, Grand Bland, MI, Karen Arthur and Cora Arthur, both of Saginaw, MI, and Lyttia Arthur, Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law, Dr. Willie F. Casey, Saginaw, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, including special friends for over 50 years, Elaine Welch and Margo Hampton; two special cousins, Ceciel Reed and Shirley Ward. Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Josephine Brown; a son, Gabel Harris; two sisters, Hattie Crosby and Vera Casey; one brother, Wardell Brown; mother-in-law, Odell Porter; father-in-law, Joseph Woods; two sisters-in-law, Earlean (Roscoe) Reed and Dawn Arthur; three brothers-in-law, Lee and Robert Arthur, and Richard Crosby. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 North 29th Street, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Willie Hill, Host Pastor and Dr. Willie F. Casey will officiate with interment Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
