Ms. Calruth (Calhoun) Callum

Calruth Callum, a beloved Mother, Grand Mother, Great-Grand Mother, Sister, and Auntie made her transition on March 15, 2025. Affectionately known to family and friends as “ Ruthie ”, she was born to the union of the late Wade Calhoun, Sr. and Mattie T. Calhoun on June 8, 1948 in Saginaw Michigan. She was preceded in death by both parents, Wade Sr. and Mattie Calhoun; siblings, Wade Calhoun Jr., James Calhoun, Shelby Calhoun, Gloria Trammell, Louise Calhoun, and Barbara Cousins; nephew, Duane and one niece, Vatina. She attended Saginaw High School and furthered her education in medicine. She truly enjoyed working as a nurse for many years. Calruth loved to decorate, cook, garden, assist others, design and create. Her immense love for kids led her to become a Foster Mother many years, while simultaneously raising her own. Calruth met and married Joseph Jr., who preceded her in death. Together they owned and operated JC Appliances and raised three children, Charnita, Allen, and Lykesha. Calruth was baptized and received Christ as her Lord and Savior at Bethany Lutheran Church. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Lykesha (Orlando) Curry and Charnita (Micheal) Callum-Riveria; one son, Allen Douglas; nine grandchildren: DeQuavius (Darnika), DeOnton, Ashley, DeVondre, Donovan, Chartaja, DeTavion, and DeAngelo; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carnell Calhoun; two sisters, Malina Barlow and Gail Crittendon; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 1 Timothy 4: 7-8 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11: 25-26 Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Alfonzo Thomas will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
