Carla D. Lockhart-Ponder

Carla Danielle Lockhart-Ponder was called home to be with our heavenly father on Sunday, January 12, 2014. Carla was born December 22, 1968 in Saginaw, Michigan to William E. and Jacquelin Gipson Lockhart. She was baptized at an early age and was a lifelong committed member of St. Luke CME Church, where she served as a choir member and various other activities within the church during her childhood and adult life. Carla was a 1987 graduate of Saginaw High School, received her Associates degree from Delta College and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University in 2010. Until her illness, Carla dedicated 19 years to Birch Park Apartments employed as a Housing Specialist. Carla’s sweet spirit and loving personality left a lasting impact on everyone she knew. She always valued each moment spent with her sister Kim, close family and bonding time with her girlfriends. Carla never missed the opportunity to exemplify her unconditional love for others by sharing her laugh, smile and heart with anyone in her presence. Attending family and church events, enjoying music with friends and fun fellowship with those she loved delighted her the most. Memories will be cherished by her parents, William E. and Jacquelin Lockhart; children, Danielle Je’nise Lockhart, twins, Sydney and Jordan Ponder; step-daughters, Latreana and Mariah Ponder; grandchildren, Brandan Lockhart, Austin and Malcolm Washington and Jaren Johnson; sister, Audrea Kim Lockhart; grandparents, Eudora and Ollie Blair, Martha S. and Berlin Lockhart Sr.; aunts, Dr. L. L. Lockhart and Martha Ann Lockhart; uncles, Berlin Jr. (Bobbie) Lockhart, Tommie (Theresa) Gipson; and many other relatives and friends including cherished cousins, Andrea (Charles) Sharper and Christopher Gipson. She also leaves to remember her, godchildren and special friends, including, Sonji Carthan, Regina Gilmer-Phillips, Chontonya Reynolds and Derrick Livingston. Carla was preceded in death by her great grandparents, TJ & Christell Riley; grandparents, Charlie (Delores) Gipson; aunt, Barbara Ann Lockhart; uncles, Sylvester Carroll and Freddie Lockhart, Sr.; and dear friend, Rejene Lewis. The family would like to express special thanks to the Covenant Medical Center- Harrison, 2nd Floor, and all medical staff. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St. Luke C.M.E. Church, 1121 Tuscola Street. Pastor M. Joyce Redfearn will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
