Mr. Charles Garrett

Mr. Charles Albert Garrett Sr. was born May 20, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan to the proud parents of Percy Lee and Alice (Mullen) Garrett, Sr. He passed away October 6, 2017. Age 65 Years. Charles served as a Deacon at New Birth Baptist Church, sang in the choir and he was a faithful member. He loved doing Parishioners on Patrol, basketball, football, and cooking BBQ. He enjoyed doing yard work for himself and others. Gardening was a favorite pastime. One can see beautiful flowers in his yard along with an artistic sculpture he fashioned from a stump of a cut down tree. Charles was a graduate of Arthur Hill Tech High School where he played on the varsity basketball team. He was employed at Saginaw Manufacturing Plant GM and retired from Delphi Automotive. Charles never left the house without his hat on his head. He was a sharp dresser and had his “swag” going on. Dancing was a passion. Charles would even get up and dance during concerts. Among some of his favorite Bible verses was Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.” Others included Philippians 4:13 and Hebrew 11:6. Deacon Garrett leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Evelyn Garrett of Saginaw, MI; three sons, Charles (Kelly) Garrett II, DaVario (Brandy) Garrett and Marcua (Ericka) Garrett; one step-son, Bryant Bentley I; grandchildren, Charles, Tey’Ariana, Markele, Khalil, DaVario, Jr., Bri, MyKah Garrett, Amir Houston, Champaine, Bryant II, LaQuintis, Lamarcus, Anthony, Jalen, Braxton and Travor; 17 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Evelyn (Virgil) Smith, Barbara (Calvin) White, Lynette (Ralph) Ford, Carol (David) Fenn, Cathy (Johnnie) Rodgers; mother-in-law,, Dorothy Ford; sister-in-law, Jearlean Garrett, Maple (Gregory) Millen, Beatrice Hardy, Gina (Willie) Copeland; brothers-in-law, Eddie Hardy, Gregory Hardy (Cheryl) and Steven (Richele) Hardy, many other relatives and friends including special friends, Jerry Owens, James Hearns, Bishop Larry Camel, Gregory Stinson and Marvin Walker. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Alice Garrett; wife Vaughnita Garrett; brothers, Percy Jr., Freddie Belford and Gregory Garrett; sister, Doris Black; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy L. Hardy, Lucy and Floyd Robertson; Kay, Charles, and Jeannette Hardy; mother and father-in-law, Eddie and Lula Hardy. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at New Birth Missionary Baptist Cathedral, 3121 Sheridan Avenue, Bishop Larry Camel will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery 3210 South Washington Avenue. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave. on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
