Clara L. Booker

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Dear Friend entered into eternal peace on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the age of 79 years. Clara was born October 12, 1935 in Marion, Alabama, daughter of David, Sr. and Sue Esther Jones, who preceded her in death. She came to Saginaw at an early age and graduated from Saginaw High School, Class of 1953. She married Arnold Booker, Sr. in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1982. Mrs. Booker worked at Sacred Heart School and later retired from Saginaw Public Schools. Clara was a loving, faithful member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, where she volunteered endless hours as a member of the Culinary Ministry and was also on the Scholarship Committee. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her memory will be forever cherished by her children, Arnold (Shirley) Booker, Jr., Iris (Dan) Childs and Brian (Jennifer) Booker; grandchildren, Anthony (Brittany) Genwright II, Brandon (Lorrin) Genwright, Sr., Dominique, Samantha Williams, Brian and Evan Booker; great-grandchildren, Brandon II, Mikayla and Jyllian Genwright, Landan, Laila, Ge’Neyah and Romeo; brother-in-law, Louis (Pearl) Booker; sister-in-law, Gladys Winters; special cousins, Cora Burkes and Earl Young; best friend, Eldora Davis; Angelus Guillory, whom she loved like a son; her Messiah Church family, including her pew buddy, Dorothy Harris and long-time neighbor, Arthur Hayes; also a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Annie, Rechelle and Sheena. Mrs. Booker was also preceded in death by her brothers, David Jr., Robert and LeRoy Jones; mother-in-law, Jannie Booker; and a special brother-in-law, Melvin Booker. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Messiah Missionary Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or the Foster Jackson Jones Scholarship Fund. Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Road. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
