Clarence E. Whiting

Mr. Clarence E. Whiting, age 73, of Saginaw, Michigan peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, February 01, 2015, at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center. He was born March 07, 1941 in Natchez, Mississippi to Willie and the late Josie I. Sherman. Clarence accepted Christ at an early age. He later joined Sunflower Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a faithful member until his health failed. Clarence attended the Saginaw Public School System where he took a huge interest in computers. He was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed fishing, however his favorite delicacy was indulging in “The Gospel Bird”. Clarence was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army. During his nine years of service, he earned a National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Joint Services Commendation Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Expert (Pistol); Sharpshooter (Rifle); Expert (Rifle M-1); Marksman (Pistol Cal .45). His memory will be cherished by his four daughters, Desiree Coleman, Lansing, Michigan, Dorthia (Eric) Eggleston, Saginaw, Michigan, Diane Crowell (Jerry McCaulley), Huntsville, Alabama, and Patricia (Anthony) Spinner, Huntsville, Alabama; three sisters and one brother, Lois (Michael) Balls, Josie M. Sherman, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Willie M. Washington, Covington, Georgia, and Billie R. Sherman (Marjorie Williams), Lansing, Michigan; two aunts, Beatrice (James) Chapman and Bernice (William) Dix, both of Saginaw, Michigan; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josie I. Sherman; sister, Bernice Singleton; brother, Charles Sherman; and one nephew, DaMario K. Sherman, Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to the Palliative Care Team at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Covenant Cooper (5th Floor & NICU), Select Specialty Hospital, and Heartland Health Care Facilities. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 120 North 15th Street. Pastor Vincent McMillon will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
