Mr. Clinton "Sonny Boy" Austin Jr.

Our beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, Clinton “Sonny Boy” Austin, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on July 28, 2024 at the age of 71 years at Henry Ford Hospital. He was born in Bishopville, South Carolina to Clinton (Ned) Austin and Annie Lou Austin. The family moved to Saginaw, Michigan when Clinton was very young. He attended Martha Long Street Elementary and Central Middle Schools. He continued his education by receiving his GED which led him to Delta College. While attending Delta College he received an Associate Degree and met his mentor Willie Thompson through a program for young black men. Professor Thompson through nurturing and encouragement helped him gain employment at Delta College as a Financial Aid Counselor at the Delta College Ricker Annex Center. He was a dedicated and faithful employee helping many students for over 28 years until he retired. Clinton loved to cook and take care of his family and being with special friends including best friends, Marvin “Nunnie” Castell and Derrick Hawkins, they both preceded him in death. Clinton leaves to cherish his memory his children, Kamille Thorne and Cole Austin both of Saginaw; grandchildren, Darnell and Darrion Darby, Kaliyah Jackson, Cole Austin, Jr., Cody Austin and Kyrie Culberson all of Saginaw; his mother, Annie Lou Austin, Saginaw; two sisters, Ella Rhea Austin-Gill, Flint, MI, Dyan Austin-Bully, Saginaw; two brothers, Warren Austin, Flint and David (Janis) Austin, Garland, TX; one uncle, Willie Wright, Sr. Saginaw; four aunts, Ella Rea Peterson, Queens, NY, Leona Snead, Cherie Mitchell and Miriam (Victor) Johnson all of Saginaw; the mother and grandmother of his children, Ronda Thorne; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins other relatives that loved him dearly and many friends. Mr. Clinton Austin, Jr. was also preceded in death by his father, Clinton Austin, Sr.; grandparents, Warren and Vicey (Chapman) Wright and Julia M. Wright; three baby sisters; many uncles, aunts and cousins. Family Hour will take place at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 4860, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Fred Lewis will officiate. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
