Mr. Cornelius "Sonny" Robinson Jr.

Mr. Cornelius (Sonny) Robinson Jr., age 62 of Saginaw, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on March 6, 2026. Cornelius was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 28,1963, to the union of Cornelius Robinson Sr. and Rebecca Robinson. Cornelius was educated through the Saginaw Public School system and graduated from Saginaw High School in 1982. He excelled in football, and the grit and determination he needed to be a standout in football, carried him throughout his journey with his own life experiences. Cornelius earned a four-year football scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Throughout his life, his work history ranged in different capacities. He worked in juvenile counseling, and counseling in other areas. He held a position with the federal government. And more recently, he worked in construction, and took on positions in different states. Cornelius later enlisted and proudly-served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Korea as a Communication Specialist. He proudly reminded us of his contribution to our country, by posting his picture on Facebook each year on Veteran's Day. Cornelius was baptized at an early age and professed his love for Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a current member of Messiah Baptist Church under the great leadership of Reverend/Dr. Daniel Smith in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he resided for many years. Cornelius enjoyed life’s experiences, and was an avid football and basketball fan. Cornelius loved the arts, especially jazz, music, and attending various festivals. He was well-traveled and enjoyed cruising. He often referred to himself as the BBQ Grill Master. He loved laughing, and spending time with his family and friends. He made sure each encounter with you was well- spent with his big smile, and infectious laugh. Cornelius also developed a love for hats from his father, and wore assorted styles, shapes, and colors that he would buy from all over the country while traveling. Cornelius was a gentle giant that took pride in his clothing, and detailing his outfit with the perfect hat to solidify his look. Cornelius also had a passion for flower-gardening that he learned from his mother, while helping her maintain the family flower-garden while growing up. He truly enjoyed life’s treasures, and all that life had to offer. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Surviving to cherish Cornelius's memory are: Daughter, Ebony Stuckey. Sister, Gloria Gaither. Sister, Debra Robinson. Sister, Linda (Mark) Mosley. Granddaughter, Taniya Stuckey, and Great-Grandson, Amir Stuckey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, former classmates, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Cornelius and Rebecca Robinson; and his daughter, Elisha Stuckey. Family Hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Greater Love Ministries, 3829 Lamson St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor James Snead will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Visitation will take place on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
