Mr. Curtis L. Turner, Sr.

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Mr. Curtis Lovell Turner , Sr. peacefully made his transition from his earthly home in Defiance, Ohio to eternal life with the Lord on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, age 69 years. He was born on November 23, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan, to the union of L.C. Turner, Sr. and Eddie Mae Rawls-Turner. Accepting Christ at an early age, he was raised under the leadership of Pastor R.B. Corley, Sr. at TrueVine Missionary Baptist Church. Curtis graduated from Saginaw High School, "Class of 1972". He had an immaculate work ethic. Curtis always kept a job, a clean ride, and money in his pocket. He worked for Central Jr. High School as a Sanitation Specialist until he pursued a career with General Motors. He retired in 2009 after 38.4 years. And as much as he loved working, Curtis loved retirement even more. In retirement, he took up “full-time grand-parenting.” Curtis loved his grandkids and there was nothing he would not do for them. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family, taking the grands to school and practice, picking them up, and teaching them how to ride their bikes while he exercised. He loved to walk. In his pastime, he also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, going to basketball and football games - especially to see his two favorites (Saginaw’s own, Darvin Ham and LaMarr Woodley). He truly enjoyed the life he lived and lived it to the fullest. Curtis will be missed dearly by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy his two sons, Dontarrie (Martha) Johnson Sr. and Curtis (Gabreale) Turner II; seven grand-children, Natasha “Ta Ta” Johnson, Donita Johnson, Dontarrie Johnson Jr., and Malik William Johnson, Aniyjinay “Niy Niy” Turner, Cassidy “Cass” Turner, and Curtis “Chubbs” Turner III; two brothers, L.C. Jr. “Slick” and William “Baldy” Turner; four sisters, Kathy Watkins, Bobbie (Larry Sr.) Clemmons, Diane and Floretta Turner. A host of other relatives and friends, including special nephews, DeRonnie Turner and Adrian Cooper Jr. and special nieces DeShawnda Turner, DeNecho Turner, Krystal Marshall and Joy Laury; special friends, Charles “Charlie Mac” McMillan and Emma King; special children, Tracy Lowe, Shawannah Lowe, Brandi Brown, and Brittney Brown; special grandchildren, Myah Lowe, Serenity Lowe, Shariyah Hines, Kavion Franklin, and Jayden Wooden. Curtis Turner, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents L.C. Sr. and Eddie Mae Turner; brother- in-law, Eddie Watkins; sister-in-law, Martha Turner; close cousin, Arthur Ray Turner; and god- parents, Herman and Ernestine Jackson. The family would like to express a special thanks to Promedica Defiance and Toledo Hospital, the Oncology, Surgery, and Rehabilitation teams, Pastor Chevez D. Marshall and the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church family, and Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home, Saginaw. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 N. 8th Street, Saginaw, MI 48601, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Chevez Marshall will officiate.
