David Lee Taylor

Our beloved father and grandfather went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the age of 81 years. David Lee Taylor was born in Birmingham, AL on April 22, 1932 to Rev. Leon and Hessie Taylor, and birth mother, Beatrice “Bae” Jackson. David received Christ at an early age at Lily Hill Baptist Church where his father, Rev. Leon Taylor, was the Senior Pastor. David was educated in the Alabama school system. He went on to receive his Associate’s degree in business in Montgomery, AL. David served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received numerous awards. He continued his life in Alabama, having two beautiful daughters, Cynthia Abernathy and Deborah Reese. David moved to Waterbury, CT where he met and married Catherine Ricketts and they had four wonderful children: David, Mark, Donyell and Valorie Taylor. David then moved his family to Saginaw, MI where he was employed at General Motors Grey Iron Foundry and the Buena Vista school system where he was a bus driver. He retired from both. He was a member of the Masonic Temple for years where he held numerous offices. David had many hobbies. He loved fishing, hunting, cleaning hats and spending time with his friends. David was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board and in the Male Chorus and was lovingly known as “Mr. Glide”. He was a dedicated, dependable and loving father who will truly be missed. (Tracy) Taylor-Mingo, Lithonia, GA former wife and friend, Catherine Taylor; grandchildren, Tommie (Tamara) Reese, Birmingham, AL, Felita Reese, Birmingham, AL, Bernis “Bo” Abernathy, Birmingham, AL, DeMarcus A.B. Gaddy, Norcross, GA, Mark A. Taylor II, Clinton Township, MI, David K. Taylor, Clinton Township, MI, Janay N. Smith, Riverdale, GA, Kenyonna I. Trammell, Riverdale, GA and Jarvis Mingo, Lithonia, GA; sisters, Dorothy (Bearnon) Hall, Saginaw, MI, Gladys Moon, Decatur, AL; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends, including special friends, Anne Ford and Clarence Scott. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Johnson Street. Pastor Rodrick A. Smith will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
