Mr. Derek Jerome Smith "Froggy"

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”. Ecclesiastes 3:1 ~Seasons of Life of Derek Jerome Smith “Froggy” Season One ~ Seasons of Life ~ On January 11, 2024 the Lord extended his arms wide to bring home one of his precious angels, Derek Jerome Smith. Although with stained cheeks, and hearts filled with sorrow we accepted and let him go. Derek was born September 1, 1951 in Saginaw, Michigan to Edna Smith and Lorenzo Short. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and after, he worked for General Motors Corporation. Season Two ~ Seasons of Service He was a member of the Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church for many years until his health declined. Derek’s favorite scripture was Palms 23 and his signature line when he couldn’t get his way with you was, “Boy, Boy, Boy”. Derek often would like you to know that he was the “Patriarch” of the family and the neighborhood. Derek, a man that loved to dress, had a kind hearted spirit, he was a man that loved the Lord and with that he would lend a helping hand in his neighborhood! Season Three ~ Seasons of Family Derek leaves to cherish many memories to celebrate his life, sons, Kingyatta Dennis and Chris Smith; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Yvette Smith, Phyllis Smith and Shirley Norman all of Saginaw, MI; brothers, Dwight Smith, Reginald Smith, Kannapolis, NC and Lydell (Judy) Smith, Shreveport, LA; god-son, Jamol Pinkston; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends too numerous to mentions. He also leaves to cherish his memory the Sanders family and the Fourth and Kirk Neighborhood. Season Four~ Seasons of those Gone Before Him Derek was preceded in death by his mother and father, Edna Smith and Lorenzo Short; brother, Archie Sims, Jr.; niece Ebony Vickers; nephews, Antionne Monroe and Eric Williams. Season Five ~ Seasons of Acknowledgement Special thanks to all his doctors and car team at Adira Nursing and Rehab, Covenant HealthCare Harrison Campus – ICU staff, his siblings, especially his brother, Lydell Smith for your dedication in making sure Derek had the best care until the end. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2024 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 N. 6th St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Benjamin Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
