Mr. Dexter Holiday

Our beloved Father, Husband, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend Dexter O’Neal “Rack” Holiday went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the blessed age of 81. He was born on October 22, 1941, in Grand River, Kentucky to the late Hezikiah and Mary Johnson Holiday. Dexter was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan for over 21 years. He began his Christian walk at the tender age of 12 when he accepted Christ. Dexter served as a faithful member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, where Willie Hill Jr. is the pastor. Dexter is a member of the "Class of 61" Cherokee High School where he graduated in May 1961. He honorably served in the United States Army for approx. 2 years as a Food Service Apprentice and a Marksman Expert (M1 Rifle). As a United Auto Workers (UAW) member, Dexter worked at General Motors (GM) for over 20 years until he retired in 1992. Rack leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carrie; 8 children, Elaine Baugh (Larry-deceased), Kenneth Rutland (Remona), Dexter Jr (Debra), Dr. Yolanda Rutland, Thachous (Lonni), Dr. Jennifer Martin-Green (Garnett), Stephanie, and Stacey; sisters, Carlean Humes and Johnnie Mae Cooper (Joe-deceased); brothers, Thomas Holiday (Marie) and Henry Holiday (Ann); 3 stepchildren, John Alven, George Witherspoon, and Dominique Carey; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren, with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Additionally, Rack leaves to cherish his memories—his best friend, partner-in-crime, and brother by love—Jimmy Shelton along with special friends, Willie Hill, Sr., Roy Greer, and Wayne Lee. He was preceded in death by his father, Hezikiah Holiday; mother, Mary Johnson Holiday; his brothers—Charles and Millert Holiday, and the love of his life, his granddaughter Kaitlyn. Funeral service 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 North 29th Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Willie Hill, Jr. will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until time of service.
