Mrs. Dorothy Lee Frierson

Our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother while surrounded by family at home, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 5, 2022 at the age of 90 years. Dorothy Lee Rufus Jackson was born February 11, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee the daughter of Sadie Brooks and Johnnie Jackson. Dorothy graduated from Clark High School in Mt. Pleasant, TN, then married Melvin Frierson. From this union five children were born, Thomas, Beverly, Michelle, Maris and Deirdre Frierson. She became a resident of Saginaw, Michigan and a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Her first job was as a baby sitter, later she was employed at Vlasic Pickle Company, Tony’s Restaurant and Health Source Saginaw (formerly Saginaw Community Hospital). Dorothy loved the Lord and her family. She also loved her friends as well. She had a quiet and gentle spirit which caused people to love her unconditionally. When she was in the community those that knew her called her “Mamma”. She had a heart of gold and an affectionate smile. Any of her children’s friends were always welcomed to spend a night and enjoy her cooking. Dorothy would not take a bite of her own food until she blessed it and offered anyone some. Every Friday she would fry fish, Sunday’s there was always “Good Ole” soul food. She enjoyed watching TV and listening to music. Dorothy was by all means one-of-a-kind. Mrs. Dorothy Lee Rufus Frierson leaves memories to be cherished by two daughters, Beverly Frierson and Michelle Macon, both of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Sharronda and LaTonya (Brett) Willis, Tenisha, LaKisha and Rochelle Liddell, Torri and Ayron Frierson, Darius, Ashley Frierson and Keel Macon, Jr., Maris Boyd, Erica Frierson, Kristian Walton and Terra Griffin; 32 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Jackson, Chicago, IL, other relatives and friends including special friends, Lizzie Pickett, Christine Brookins, Dorothy Gill whom she referred to as her little sister and Sandra Coleman. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sadie Brooks; father, Johnnie Jackson; husband, Melvin Frierson; sons, Thomas and Maris Frierson; daughter, Deirdre Stephenson; granddaughter and great-granddaughter, Kia and Khiyah Frierson; grandson, Thomas Liddell; great-grandson, Detorrion Liddell; brothers, Johnnie and Andrew Jackson; and longtime friend, Billie Williams. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ravindran Great Lakes Bay Health Center, Dr. Robert Watha, Covenant Cooper 4 North and Visiting Nurses and Hospice. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Dennis Laffoon will officiate. Interment will take place in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 7475 Holland Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
