Mrs. Dorothy Mae Sidney

Dorothy Mae Sidney was born August 13, 1951 in Boligee, Alabama to the late Willie and Sarah Gibson Meriwether, she was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the age of 69. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor S.N. Norwood. After graduating from Greene County Training School, she relocated to Saginaw, Michigan and joined the Truevine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.B. Corley Sr., currently under Pastor Paul E. Broaddus. Dorothy was a member of the Missionary Society, Adult Bible Class, Sunday school teacher, greeter, and a member of the Saginaw Valley Baptist District Association. Dorothy retired from the Sun Valley Nursing Home after 22 years of service. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Willie Meriwether; mother, Sarah Gibson-Meriwether; grandfather, John Gibson Sr. and Alex Meriwether; grandmother, Elizabeth Spencer-Gibson and Lucy Rice; brother, Darren Meriwether and sister, Belinda Meriwether. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving husband of 49 years, Mr. Robert Sidney; two children, Marcus Demetrius (Shelia) Sidney Sr. of Fortworth, Texas and Omar S. Sidney of Saginaw, Michigan; three grandchildren, Marcus Jr., Alicia, and Kiara Sidney of Fortworth, Texas; seven sisters, Beverly Agee, Sherry Meriwether, and Deborah Moore all of Boligee, Alabama; Mary (Allen) Brown of Austell, Georgia; Audrey Meriwether of Atlanta, Georgia; Valerie (Anthony Sr.) Nobles of Stockbridge, Georgia; and Tracy Meriwether of Lilburn, Georgia; four brothers, Lawrence and Willie Meriwether of Boligee, Alabama; Terry (Janice) Meriwether of Saginaw, Michigan; and Kelvin (Tamara) Meriwether of Jackson, Mississippi; a very special aunt, Dora Walker; five uncles John (Cremonia) Gibson, Booker T. Gibson, Moses Gibson, Albert (Joann) Gibson, all of Saginaw, Michigan; Joe (Patricia) Gibson of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother-in-law, Sammy Jackson of Saginaw, Michigan and an adopted mother, Mrs. Luebertha Brown. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, special cousins Josephine Pelt, Gloria Blackwell, Patricia Harper, and Uncle Joe Gibson and special friends Betty Abernathy, Cora Burkes, Vera King, T’Ella Shannon, Bertha Payne and Cora Lewis and a host of friends. Dorothy will forever be remembered as a loving, compassionate, and caring person. She touched the lives of all those who came in contact with her and those who knew her and loved her. She will forever be missed. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442. Visitation will take place Wednesday, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. April 7, 2021 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607.
