Dr. Tanya Denise Foster

Our beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt, Dr. Tanya Denise Foster made her transition from this earthly life to her eternal home in heaven on October 25, 2014. She was born February 24, 1970 in Saginaw, Michigan to Robert and Dorothy Epperson Foster. Dr. Foster was involved with many positive activities and organizations growing up which enriched and enhanced her academic and social skills. She was a member of the Xinos Youth Group sponsored by The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.-Gamma-Kappa Chapter, where she earned an award for creative writing. She attended the Bridgeport Schools and graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1988 with academic honors. Dr. Foster later graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC with a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Master of Science from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, she received her Medical Degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, NJ. Dr. Foster joined the practice of Johnston OB/GYN Associates in January 2008 upon completion of her residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, MD. She was a Board Certified OB/GYN specializing in high risk and low risk pregnancy, preventative health care, gynecology, minimally invasive surgery and urogynecology. Dr. Foster obtained the status of a Fellow from The American Congress Of Obstetricians And Gynecologists. She had a special care for her patients and provided the highest standard of quality health and education for them. Dr. Foster grew up with strong Christian and family values which shaped her into the loving, kind, caring, generous, honest, trusting and dedicated person she was. Dr. Foster loved her family dearly, she loved people, and many were touched by her life. She was a God-fearing woman, and the word of God and Church were priorities in her life. She attended Upper Room Church of God in Christ in Raleigh, NC. In her spare time she enjoyed strength training, spending time with family and friends and international travel. She was a proud member of the illustrious sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Dr. Foster leaves to cherish her memory, her parents; two sisters, Yolonda R.(Jacob) Mosby and Romonica L. (Dale) Ruffin; special niece, Kyndall J. Mosby; nephews, Jacob Mosby III, Isaiah Ruffin, and Xavier Ruffin; two godsisters, Kimberly and Ebonee Smith; godbrother, Pastor Maurice Hopgood; a special cousin, Roderic D. McCulloh, who was like a brother; grandfather, John Edward Foster, Birmingham, AL; aunts, Jessie Newson, Lena (George) Webb, Geraldine (William) Doxie, Betty Epperson, Cora (Clarence) Burkes, all of Saginaw, MI, Lavern (Michael) Davis of Little Rock, AR, Earnestine Gavin, Helen Turner, Therolene (Charlie) Phillips, Sallie Foster, all of Birmingham, AL, Annie Jean Crawford of Vicksburg, MS, Shirley (Donald) Garrett of Shreveport, LA, and Gloria Kaufman of Tuscaloosa, AL; uncle, Jerry (Deborah) Foster of Birmingham, AL; many cousins and friends, including special friends: Tameeka Law, M.D., Tanneisha Barlow, M.D., Latara Brown, Lori Aboulmouna, Khea Mallory and her partners in the practice. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Detroy and Leida Epperson, and Nellie Foster; aunt, Lenora McCulloh; uncles, Ardell and Joe Epperson, and Johnny James Foster. Chipp, Senior Pastor will officiate with entombment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
