Mother Earleen Windom

Mother Earleen Bowie Windom departed this life on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Heartland Health Care. She was born on April 23, 1930 in Eldorado, Arkansas, the youngest child of Alex and Willie (Hedgewood) Bowie. Earleen was adopted by Bessie Calvin after the death of her mother. Earleen moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1968, where she met the love of her life, John Windom, They were married in 1974 and shared 36 blissful years until his death. She was employed with Osteopathic Hospital for 18 years in the Nursing Unit until she retired. Earleen was a loved and cherished member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where she faithful served as pianist of the Sunday school department, the Mother’s Board and the Deaconess Board. Earleen is probably hearing these words from the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: “For I was hungry and you gave me meat: I was thirsty and you gave me drink: I was a stranger and you took me in: I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me: I was in prison and you came unto me.” (Matthew 25:35-36). Truly she is one of God’s good and faithful servants. Earleen was an excellent cook and made the best “hot water cornbread, greens and Mississippi Mud. If you were fortunate enough to experience one of these dishes you were blessed by one of God’s angels! Mother Earleen Windom leaves to cherish her memory: god-children, Doris (James) Jones of Saginaw, MI; sister-in-law, Lillie Bouie of Southfield, MI; nieces, Phyllis Bouie of Oakland, CA, Pamela Bouie, Patricia James, both of Southfield, MI, Tamiko (Anthony) Doyle of Marietta, GA, Nicole Bouie of New Orleans, LA and Johnnie Mae Williams of Detroit, MI; nephews, Michael (Karen) Bouie of Shelby Twp., MI, Kenneth L. Bouie of Oak Park, MI, Kenneth Bowie of Detroit, MI, Eurtis Bowie of Bastrop, LA; special friends, Ever Grandberry, Rebecca Coleman, Josie Lee, Lula Belvin, Mrs. Bond, Carolyn Riley, Mary Woods, Mary Adway, George and Glendora Harris, Ophelia Jones, Caroline Horrison and Katherine Moore; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mother Windom was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Ray F. Bouie, Curtis Bouie and Eurtis Bouie. The family would like to thank her caretakers at Heartland Nursing Home, Jessica, Jeramiah, Onsauna, Cedric, Ayesha and Chelaine for of the kindness and love you showed to Mother Windom, God bless you all. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Minister James Jones will officiate with interment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
