Mr. Edmond Gaines, Jr.

Mr. Edmond Gaines, Jr. departed this life on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the age of 72 years. He was born February 19, 1944 in Columbus, Georgia the son of Edmond, Sr. and Ruby (Reese) Gaines. Edmond met and married Jesse Hill on August 19, 1995. He confessed Christ late in his life upon joining New Life Baptist Church where he was baptized and served with Church Security. Edmond retired from Plastech in May 2007. He also worked at University of Michigan, Health Delivery and the rail road. He enjoyed working with people suffering from drug addiction. He loved to watch westerns and listen to the blues. He was a quiet unassuming man, was quick to listen and slow to speak. He was always ready to help if he could. Edmond always believed in the best of people. Mr. Gaines leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jessie Hill-Gaines; children, Andrea Barkley of Lansing, MI and Pamela Gaines of Saginaw, MI; four step-children; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Viola Gaines-McMillon; one brother, Roy Gaines; eight nieces and five nephews; Stacie Steward of Macomb Township, MI, Rhonda Gaines of Prince George, VA, Rosland Gaines Williams of Saginaw, MI, Katrina Gaines of Georgia, Kimberly Leslie of Milwaukee, WI, Keisha Smith of Allen, TX, Judi Miller of Kirkland, WA, Julie Logan of Phoenix, AZ, Chris Gaines of Saginaw, MI, Seneca Holden of Frankford, KY, Darrell Gaines of Mackinaw Island, MI, Charles Leslie, Jr. of Wisconsin, and John McMillian of Jamaica, NY; two aunts, Henrietta Marie Clay of Louisville, KY and Emma Reese of Columbus, GA; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Gaines; four brothers-in-law, Walter C. Leslie of Milwaukee, WI, Harold Leslie of Saginaw, MI, Laverne Hill of San Diego, CA and Jeffery Hill of Mt. Pleasant, WI, a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends including special friends, Lionel Barkley and Willie Abernathy. Mr. Gaines was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond Gaines, Sr. and Ruby Reese-Gaines and his grandparents, Matthew and Lovana Reese. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at New Life Baptist Church Ministries, 1401 Janes Street. Pastor Rufus Bradley will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
