Elijah Simon

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue. Bishop Kenneth Simon, Sr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present at 6:00 p.m. for the Family Hour. Mr. Elijah Simon passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan at the age of 53 years. Elijah was born August 16, 1954 in Saginaw, MI to Robert, Sr. and Carrie Lee (McCain) Simon. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and was a 1972 graduate of Saginaw High School. Elijah accepted Christ in his life and attended Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, SC. Elijah was especially well known in South Carolina. He loved his family and friends and listening to gospel music, especially by Shirley Caesar. Elijah moved to Bishopville, SC in 1975 and was employed at Reeves Brothers Manufacturing Company and later moved to Sumter, SC where he was employed at Crescent Tools and at Bendix (Bosch) Braking System for 25 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Beverly M. Simon of Sumter, SC; two sons, Toriana (Ramona) Allen of Saginaw, MI and his mother, Pankie Allen and Elijah Caldwell of Ansonia, CT and his mother, Minnie Caldwell; three sisters, Dorothy Simon-Boone and Carrie Lee Simon-McLeod, both of Saginaw, MI and Rosa M. Bowman of Bishopville, SC; three brothers, Bishop Kennith M. (Debwin) Simon of Saginaw, MI, Robert Simon, Jr. of Statesborough, GA and Benard Joyner of Rantoul, IL; three aunts; four uncles; a special uncle, Abe McCain, Jr. of Bishopville, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and a special brother-in-law, Moses (Anita) Hudson of Sumter, SC. He was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Willie James Simon and Ryan Joyner; two brothers-in-law, Lee Roy McLeod and Sammie Lee Boone, Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to Rev. Floyd Logan, Rev. Murry Culberson, Carl Mosley, Virgil Sue Billings, Debwin Simon,Covenant Medical Center-Cooper, 7th Floor ICU, also to Patty, Linda and Lisa.
