Elizabeth Liz" Merrill

Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at St. Luke's Temple C.O.G.I.C., 643 Irving Park, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Supt. Absalom Smith, Host Pastor. Pastor Cirven Merrill will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. The Greatest Mom Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elizabeth "Sweet Liz" Merrill, was called home by Jehovah God on February 26, 2011 at her home. She was born February 14, 1929 in Mayersville, MS. She moved to Saginaw, MI with her husband, Cager Merrill, Sr. during the mid-fifties. Elizabeth was a faithful member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (East Congregation), attending services until her health began to fail her. She enjoyed Bible Study and Field Service Work. She was a Professional Cook most of her adult life, having been employed by the Ramada Inn, Treasure Island, and several other organizations and institutions. Her cooking gift was enjoyed by many, and she unselfishly taught her trade to others. She was very compassionate about helping others, and oftentimes spoke well of others. Elizabeth went back to school late in life and achieved her G.E.D. She received numerous awards, certificates, acknowledgements and honorary recognitions during her lifetime. Her greatest joy was the love of her family and relatives. She enjoyed family reunions and family gatherings. She leaves to cherish her memory, four children: one daughter, Sandra Jo Merrill, and three sons, Michael D. (Marcia) Merrill, Cirven D. (Sandra) Merrill, and Rodney Merrill. She also leaves many out of town relatives, including one brother, Willie and one sister, Laura. She will be missed by all of her loving grandchildren, especially two granddaughters, Zendre Montgomery and C'iara Swilley, both of whom were by her side until the end; and one loving niece, Lonnie Berry. She loved all of her grandchildren the same, and will be missed by all of them dearly. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Cager Merrill, Sr. and four sons, Cager Jr., Bobby, Collins, and Barney Merrill.
