Elmira Sims

Family hour will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at United Missionary Baptist Church, 2705 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio, with the funeral commencing at 12:00 noon. Rev. Jesse Spears will officiate with interment in Toledo Memorial Park and Mausoleum. Friends may call at Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan, on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Mrs. Elmira Sims, passed away on January 18, 2008 at the age of 90. She was born February 8, 1917 in Fargo, Arkansas to the late Jessie Lee Miller and Ed Holden. Mrs. Sims accepted Christ at a very early age and continued to be faithful in her service until the Lord called her home to receive her reward. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Elmo Sims on April 26, 1943. He preceded her in death in July 2005. To this union, God blessed them with two very special children, Wesley E. Sims (deceased) and Mardell Sims Nelson. Mrs. Sims worked for many years as a seamstress in the Toledo, Ohio area. She was a very devoted homemaker to both her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion M.B.C. in Toledo and later the United Missionary B.C. of Toledo, prior to moving to Saginaw. Upon moving to Saginaw, she and Brother Sims became active members of the Truevine M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Paul E. Broaddus. She became a member of the Missionary Society of Truevine where she actively participated in many activities. She served well in her church and loved her church family. Mrs. Sims leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Mardell Sims-Nelson of Saginaw, Michigan; two very special granddaughters, Tempest Nelson and Alexandra Nelson, both of Saginaw, Michigan; a very special nephew, Jimmy Coleman; sisters, Lillie Ruth Barnes and Gladys Reed, both of Brinkley, Arkansas; two brothers, William Holden (Mamie) of Flint, Michigan and Alonzo Holden of Brinkley, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Ophelia Walton of Richmond, California. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her special daughters, Patricia Scott-Mason, Carlis Jackson and Renae Mills, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Kathy Nail of Toledo, Ohio, and Tonya Barton of Flushing, Michigan and her very special friend, Mrs. Willie Gainey of Toledo, Ohio. The family would like to express special thanks to Mrs. Donella Brown, and her special neighbors, Mrs. Mary Morris and Mr. Otha Barnett.
