Pastor Elvin M. Owens

Pastor Elvin Melvin Owens, was born on February 5, 1937, in Elba, sweet home of Alabama, and transitioned on April 22, 2023, at the grand age of 86 years. He leaves to cherish his memory one devoted wife of 65 years, Evangelist, Missionary Earline (Williams) Owens. His first occupation was building chairs, he was a highly skilled man. He settled in Michigan in 1962 where they raised their family of eight children. He was a retiree of General Motors Malleable Iron Plant while holding fast to The Lord, serving full-time in his ministry as the Senior Pastor of Grace Church of God in Christ for over 50 years. His favorite pastime was to watch Westerns. He loved to dress, drive and live holy with a sense of humor. The Owens family witnessed Pastor Owens laying hands on the sick, seeing miracles performed by The Almighty God. Pastor Owens was a preaching machine whose sermons and sayings moved sinners to become saints. His interpretation of the Bible scripture led many souls to be saved and lives changed. His amazing ability to memorize scriptures captivated your attention. He was a devoted son and son-in-law went back to Alabama his lovely wife by his side regularly taking care of their parents and preaching revivals. Pastor E. M. Owens always added color and charm to any environment. Pastor Elvin M. Owens will be missed by his loving children, Elvin (Terri Larsen) Owens, Jr., of Minneapolis, MN, Angelia (Lee) Brooks, Diane (Michael) Simmons and Frances Smith all of Saginaw, MI, Louis (Phyllis) Owens, of Flint, MI, James (Monique) Owens and Evelyn (Jason) Ware, both of Saginaw, MI; his siblings, one brother, Lewis (Betty) Owens of Florala, AL; three sisters, Pearlene Caldwell of Enterprise, AL, Willene Carson, of Ozark, AL and Rosie L. Taylor of Elba, AL; he also leaves behind a wonderful legacy for all 36 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. & Mrs. Rufus E. and Estellar (Burrows) Owens; one brother, James Owens; seven sisters, Louise Belcher, Eloise Johnson, Alzene Kelly, Blonzell Belcher, Cora Owens, Carlene Owens, and Mary D. Owens; one daughter, Melissa Washington and a grandson, Louis Owens Jr. We take solace in wise counsel as he used to say, “What you do for man will die when you die, what you do for others will live on, what you do for GOD will last forever.” Pastor Owens did a mighty work for God in Christ Jesus. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at World Outreach Campus, 2405 Bay Street, Saginaw, MI 48602. Pastor Hurley J. Coleman, Jr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Wednesday, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
