Elzonea Sanders

Elzonea's homegoing service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2006 at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 2930 Janes Street. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Browne's Mortuary 441 N. Jefferson Ave.on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and "nana" was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 16, 2006. Age 79 years. Elzonea was born December 5, 1926 in Louisville, Miss. to Chester Holmes and Ruby (Crosby) Hickman. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Prospect Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Robinson in Louisville, Miss. She moved to Saginaw, Mich. in 1953 and later became a member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Robert Corley, Sr. where she was a faithful member on the Nurses Guild. She later became a member of Christ Disciples Church under the leadership of Pastor Paul Tolliver. Mrs. Sanders was employed at Elias Brothers Big Boy Restuarant. She was an excellent cook, loved spending time with her family and enjoyed attending church. Elzonea married William T. Sanders on January 20, 1945 in Louisville, Miss. They reunited April 10, 2004. He survives her. To this union five boys and two girls were born. Her precious memory will always be cherished by her surviving spouse Rev. William T. Sanders and children, DeEddie (Leona), James (Donna), Jerry, Connie J., Jacqueline A. Sanders all of Saginaw, Mich., Steve D. (Deanna) Sanders of Des Moines, IA; daughter-in-law, Deborah Sanders of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lessie B. (Bennie) Sanders of Louisville, Miss., Zola Mae (Hickman) Garrett and Zeola Fay (Hickman) Mason of Des Moines, IA, Zellee Kay Hickman of San Jose, Calif.; one uncle, Hunter Holmes of Louisville, Miss.; one aunt, Bessie (Coleman) Hickman of Chicago, Ill.; special cousins, Kate Ollie Glenn of West Point, Miss. and Annie Mae (Roy Lee) Edwards of Louisville, Miss.; one step-brother, George Coleman of Calif.; two step-sisters, Ruby Mae Coleman of Calif. and Rosalean Head of Louisville, Miss.; nine sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and special friends. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by one son, MacArthur Sanders, two brothers, J.D. and Wilbur Holmes, two sisters, Minnie Ola Porter-Eichelberger and Lottie Mae Glenn, seven sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law. Elzonea's family would like to express a special thank you to Phoenix Family Physicians, Covenant Healthcare-Cooper/Harrison, Dr. Bartnik and staff, and Dr. Kocherill and staff. A very special thanks to Dr. Latonya Thomas-Robinson.
